SLR or camcorder

my birthday just passes and all i really got was a bunch load of money and i was kinda looking to get either a decent Camcorder or a nice SLR and i need your help to decide. i love taking pictures and all i have right now is an old point and shoot but i also love getting the shot with a camcorder. also if you have any camera suggestions that would be great too.
 
before we make camera suggestions, we need to know how much money you have to spend and how advanced you are. but Im a photographer so im obviously gonna say get a dslr.

Also some more info that might help it depends on your friends. If you have friends that are always doing something cool and something you can shoot video for then good. If not, I would go with a dslr. You can always shoot photos of inanimate objects, shooting videos of the objects will get real boring fast. This is just on personal experience though.

Both are really fun though, so you wont be disappointed either way.
 
I was in the same spot as you.. Went for the SLR and so happy I did, its way more practical having a SLR rather then camcorder. Check out the Rebel series, if you can go for the higher quality products.
 
if your a beginner get a nikon d40 or d60 or a cannon xt or xti. with $800 you could do better, but since ur probably new to photo those will be better for you. plus, you can use your extra $$$ for better lenses, which are more important for picture quality. you can upgrade to a better body later when you have more money.
