I'm not going to sit here and preach my views on gay rights or gay marriage, because I have a feeling NS would turn into a black hole and collapse on itself, I do support GLBT men and women who want to serve in the military. John McCain is currently trying to prevent the repeal of DADT and we're losing thousands of soldiers just because of their orientation.
I have family in the military and I know that it takes a strong individual to want to serve, why discriminate just because of someones sexual orientation?
Being a strong right winger, I am normally pegged as being anti-GLBT but this is about more than that. I respect anyone who is willing to take the risk to fight for their country, and I know plenty of straight Americans who will never step up to the plate.
Lady Gaga is a strong advocate for GLBT rights and she has started a campaign to support those that want DADT to be repealed, please watch her video.

no. dont ask dont tell makes perfect sense. it actually kinda protects gays and lesbians from discrimination in the military.

the military just doesnt want to fucking know. the entire thing is based on men and women serving together often being in very tight quarters with members of the same sex for long periods of time. sure, most people understand that just because the guy on the bunk next to you, or sharing the same square foot of floor space with you is gay doesnt mean that hes going to want to have intercouse with you or anything, but sadly, the military employs people who wont think that way and may act out in a negative manner towards a person of homosexuality. on the battlefield thats not a risk anyone should take. any given group of soldiers needs to be able to work flawlessly together as a group. this generally means that ALL sexuality straight, gay, whatever, should be eliminated. the DADT policy is just a way to keep drama and shit down.

i have nothing against gays, lesbians, or any racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, anything. i believe everyone is equal. im just saying that sometimes when it comes to the military they have to make some decisions that might not please you. this is one of them.

 
Actually, the secretary of defense and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff both disagree with you. DADT's time has passed and it should be repealed.

We have discharged more than 15,000 soldiers (rarely has it ever been a case of telling) because the army actually actively pursues investigations into a soldier's sexuality if it is questionable. You've heard about how gay soldiers aren't allowed to email their partners for fear of being discovered, right? That's because the government monitors all outgoing conversations, be it email or telephone, for any hint of homosexuality. The government has repeatedly broken it's promise to not ask.
As for unit cohesion, the Pentagon shows that openly gay soldiers have barely any effect on unit cohesion, and that in battle, openly gay soldiers are up to 33% more effective in battle than their closeted counterparts. If you don't want to shower with the guys, suck it up. You have bullets flying at your face all day, your friends dying around you, and you're worried about some guy eying your junk? Get fucked.
As for the soldiers themselves, it's incredibly disrespectful to simply assume that these professional soldiers, who are trained to withstand battle conditions, and are taught the values of honor, discipline, and integrity on a daily basis, are going to become sex-crazed stereotypes.

A black guy and a white supremacist won't get along either, but the military doesn't care about them. Only the gays.

But DODT is pretty stupid IMO...Just because someone is gay/lesbian doesn't mean that can't fight as well/better than a straight man/woman. The whole thing is just so homophobic that some guy is going to surprise butt sex them in the middle of the night or they don't want a gay guy staring at their junk during a shower or something. It is mainly ignorance and homophobia and is just stupid to deny someone the right to fight for their country based on their sexual orientation.

In this past year I've honestly become more open with gays, I mean I still hate PDA but I hate it with hetero couples as well, but this isn't about that. It's about people who, no matter what color, religion, or sexual orientation they are wanting to fight for our country...and to me, that rules!
 
I can get along with anyone as long as they are a nice person and not an asshole to me for no reason. Everyone wants the generally same thing in life so it is stupid to deny yourself a good friendship because you don't want to open yourself up to a person of a different race/religion/sexuality than yourself.

I think she means "in general" she swings the the right..Just because a person says the they are a strong right-wing doesn't mean that they cant agree with some things on the left or disagree what some thing on the right.

Because there are so many different topics in politics that people look at each and every different topic and formulate and their own opinions. And that's exactly what she did. Even though "stereotypically" a conservative wouldn't agree with, lets say; letting gays get married, there are still those that do think that gays should have that right even though they are mostly right-wing.
 
Yeah, but it's very hard to claim to be a Conservative, who's entire platform is Christian Heterosexual White family values. If you support abortion or the gays, you can't be Conservative.

yes. I think she got her shit mixed up. Frankly, I think the Conservative party described on their party website could be a good thing. The problem is that every right wing nutjob and their creepy, uninformed grandmothers think its their duty to subscribe to the party. People who think Obama is a Communist because there are Czars in the white house. It ended up, with this whole "express" thing, to just be a mishmash of hateful, ignorant, uninformed people. Not even Bill O Reilly wants to be associated with the Conservatives anymore. That's saying something.

but basically, my outlook on politics is this, do what you want as long as

1- youre not increasing taxes

2- youre not taking my guns

3- youre not further limiting public land access.
 
Yeah, the problem with Conservatism is that Republicans want to increase public rights and states' rights. Conservatives want to control the public sectors with Republican ideologies and dominate our private lives with White Christian family values.
