Skrillex is fake?

you just figured out that he is a fake now? hes openly a huge fake. i didn't even think he tried to fake mixing, i thought all his sets were prerecorded? doesnt he just jump around on stage pushing buttons?

the pretty lights one is way way way better. they did a series of these where popular dj's teamed up with classic older artists

This is the best conspiracy theory ever by the way. I've heard from a lot of people who are supposedly "in the know" that the reason Deadmau5 wears his mouse head thing is so he doesn't actually have to DJ all his sets and he can just send people out to do it for him. I've also been back stage at a Skirllex set and witnessed him literally just dance and smoke cigarettes for about 20 minutes while music was playing, although I didn't see any Scandinavians in tin foil hats.

wow, skrillex sucks?

tell me something i dont know. skrillex be lame. dubstep be lame. you be lame. "checking the cell in the back". Ha. what a twat.

Laughing SO hard at OP right now.

It's like a 5-year-old is starting to realize Santa is mom and dad.

To OP, is this your first show? Sounds like it. It takes A LOT of people to run a show of that stature. Bands like Aerosmith, Dave Matthews etc all play their own music, but there is possibly 50 people behind the scenes helping that show get together. Those lights at the Skrillex show, they don't run themselves. The speakers, the lights, etc, are all controlled by other people. Musicians aren't superheroes.

Going to a concert is all about entertainment. You're thinking WAY too deep into it, kid. Go and have fun and enjoy some music for Christ Sake. Stop being so concerned about everything being fake or people being posers and all of that trendy jazz. You all sound like a bunch of paranoid psychos.

^^haha I still don't understand how people like skrillex. it's that same annoying ass style used on every one of his songs

well he was for quite a while(most of the summer according to deadmau5's live stream)

People will burn out of skrillex sooner or later, he won't have a lasting effect on music(not like he is actually being original, his style is a complete rip off of other producers that have been around far longer). Just look at other artists that sky rocket to the top so quickly, most of the time they come crashing down once the next "big thing" comes along.

i hate pop music like lil wayne, miley Cyrus, ect. i hate all country music, I hate Dave Mathews band. However, if someone tells me that they like any of those band/types of music, i wouldn't be a pretentious dick and harass them about it. music is subjective. if a certain type of music connects with someone, explaining why it sucks is not going to change their mind.

meh. as far as producing goes, he is pretty damn good.

^And up there saying he just rips off other producers styles? (probably balto..the authority in electronic music critique)

In the dub(bro)step world he pretty much re-invented the style as a whole. Beyond deadmau5, name anybody who has changed the game more than skrillex in that brostep genre... he may take certain elements of other producers style, but thats a given with any producer these days.

and to clarify Im not a big skrillex fan, and i do agree that his live shows from a technical standpoint, are embarrassing at that level.

hahahahahah im not an ignorant fuck. i truthfully go to too many shows and need to cut back. ive been djing for a couple years now, so i know when people are MIXING (which is what skrillex is supposedly doing) i watched these dudes MIXING the songs. not playing with the lights, sounds whatnot (lights guys were there too, EQ guys everyone else). they were MIXING all the shit. literally everything that came out of the speakers were directly caused by these dudes.

also i went all out to nero and skream and benga if i stayed in the mob for skrillex i wouldve died (already seen him a couple times)

"everyone" you talked to doesnt know shit about music. they had a set planned out to play but skream tweaked the system too hard (did the same thing at Ultra, blew out the system) shit got fucked so they played an entirely live set. they're the fucking OG's of dubstep/dnb and they dropped crazy moombah you must've taken too many drugs or something.

No its cause lil wayne's voice just sounds terrible and a lot of the songs are just terrible all together.

ehh, he does a beautiful job of mixing and mastering, but he does not leave any kind of space at all in his music. essentially, he is an emo-core musician who has found out how to use ableton live fairly well. his music just sounds like an emo bitch screaming through ableton live. While I do respect the amount of time it must have taken to create all the crazy sounds he uses, he uses them in a horrible way. thats why i fucking hate skrillex.

From a production standpoint, compared to many EDM artists, Skrillex is good. He makes most of his own sounds (synthesis) vs. alot of producers who straight up just use Vengeance sample packs without tweaking them. That said, I don't like many of his songs, although I must admit at Electric Zoo this year his tent was bumping.

As for him not making much money I'm sure he makes a decent amount, but it largely depends on his contract. He's on Mau5trap, and has his own label OWSLA, which Porter, Zedd, and The M Machine are under, so he probably makes a decent amount from that alone, esp with Porter blowing up. I know other big name EDM artists such as Kaskade can pull in 200K A NIGHT. That's crazy money.

I do like Skrillex's recent collab with Kaskade on this funky tune:

dude you're clueless.

I hate skrillex as much as the next guy, but he doesn't even pretend to 'mix' live.

Here's why you're wrong:

First, the dude uses a fucking MPD. you can't mix with an mpd. you can trigger clips, samples, and effects, but you can't mix with one.

Two, when a celebrity or someone who doesn't actually know how to DJ 'DJs' the person who actually does the work for them would be either off to the side of the booth or backstage, not in the light/sound booth. Theres no reason or need to risk being caught in the act by doing it in the open.

Three, why the fuck would somebody need three people to blend from one song to another? most software can basically automate the process, even if somebody was doing the work for him, two extra people would be completely unnecessary.
