Skrillex is fake?

I saw 12th Planet, Skream and Benga, Nero, and Skrillex the other night for the spooky tings in denver. Already seeing Skrillex, I knew he wasn't very good at mixing and Nero and Skream and Benga killed it so for the Skrillex show I went to the back of the venue to just chill and watch the cell. While back there, I noticed 4 Scandinavian guys IN TINFOIL HATS (keep in mind it was Halloween night, but tinfoil hats, really?) playing Skrillex's entire set. While Sonny Moore had his hands clapping in the air, these guys were mixing 4 songs together. I watched them play the entire set mixing every song together and they had the track lists in front of them whole deal. These guys were truly DJing, while sonny moore was doing some whomp dancing. So now my question is, are these 4 random guys the REAL skrillex and sonny moore is just their front man, or did skrillex blow up too quickly and he couldnt handle the pressure, so he created the cell to have other DJ's do his work?

REGARDLESS

Skrillex WAS NOT playing his set when I saw him, instead four Scandinavians in tinfoil hats were mixing all of his songs together while he danced on stage.

How is this different than the thousands of "DJs" who sample songs from other musicians and put their shitty midi drums over it and call themselves "artists"?

photos of said DJ's, and I know my shit as far as DJing goes, these guys were in the lights area, but they were djing, a PERFECT cover.

my guess is he was far to fucked up on drugs to perform his set so he had his boys that were fucked up but not nearly as fucked up do it for him.

no, he was supposedly mixing songs together, but in reality these dudes in the back were doing everything. we started taking videos (which I do have) and they would block us out and switch who was DJing, sent security on us, everything. biggest conspiracy in music today.

no you are very right, skream and benga was the best set ive seen yet (go to a ton of shows, went to ultra last year too), they broke the system first song and played a completely live set. i was chillin way in the back after because i literally thought i was gonna die they killed it so hard. and thats when i saw these dudes playing.

it wouldn't surprise me. Jelly you got to see nero, only saw them once for an hour at Identity.

no but thats the craziest part, THEY WERE WEARING IT LIKE A CONSPIRACY. after the show i went up to them and said "skrillex you guys killed it" just to see what they said and they just laughed and gave a look like you got us and gave a thumbs up. whoever wants to believe me can, if you dont, i know what i saw. we got video's that we just sent to his manager.

lol i dont really care at all but i tweeted at him calling him out. fake or not fake shits funny.

ive seen him play a few times. It didnt really seem like he was doing to much "mixing," and no turntableism at all. although he was at the tables. he more just did some basic pitch bending and shit. It sucks to know that he probably gets paid at least 3 Gs a gig to stand there and flip knobs. most of the people at his shows are to fucked up/in wuv to really notice or care tho.

I bet he is just too imcopetent to mix in front of people, but when he's recording, he does all the work.. MAYBE?

Again, I don't see how this is any different from much of hip hop/dubstep. You know, the whole taking-artistic-credit-for-music-that-isn't-yours thing.

thats what being a DJ is all about. being a dj was never to create their very own, ALL original music. maybe a few songs here and there, but no DJ has all original work.

thats the point of being a dj, to manipulate songs to make them totally different, and hopefully catchier, and better to party, rave, or dance to. increase the bass, change the bpm, throw in some different effects, etc etc.

but the point OP is trying to make is that skrillex or whatever his real name is, isnt really doing anything great, and its his counterparts that make the real magic happening. and for some reason he's the front man or famous one for it.

who gives a shit? Its not like he has to do anything. The mixes are made before the tour anyways. Its the same set list every night of the tour as far as I know. I saw him in Montreal and had a blast. So really, does it matter?

" I would love to see the looks on kids faces at me school if it was true, they're all, OMGEEZ, DID U H3AR THA N3W SKRILLEX? LAWL I LUV DUBSTEPPPP!!!,

yea, certain parts are mixed previously. but i think part of being a good DJ, is being able to do the tweaking and switch up of beats and adding in things here and there during a live show.. i have a few friends that do a lot of Dj'ing and thats the part they love. it all depends on the feel of the party and venue and crowd.

Haha what? Doing all of those things hardly changes the music at all. I realize DJs are supposed to remix music, but the very idea of it is fucking stupid to me. I don't see how DJ's can be considered "artists" at all when all they do is sample famous music, change the bpm, and add notch filters. If you want to make party music, why not just make something original?

Some artists are tasteful when they sample because they modify it beyond recognition. I'm mostly referring to the thousands of DJs who literally do nothing more than twist 3 knobs and think it actually counts as a new song. /rant

But yeah, I get the point of the thread. Either Skrillex just doesn't have enough hands, or he's a fraud like everyone else.

atleast it wasn't the group of 20+ fucking somalians that chill at Timmy Ho's near my school... they's scary :(

i agree with you there. its the same thing as people calling themselves photographers on facebook because they have dslr's..

thank you. Except that he isn't a fraud because he isn't really hiding it much anyways. And he does make originals.

I should also add: what's so bad about having other performers contributing to his live act? Last I checked that was called a "band." You don't dismiss Frank Zappa's genius just because he had The Mothers of Invention backing him...

The real odd part is how he's hiding it.

Haha no way in hell I'd place any living musicians in the same realm as Zappa. I'm offended you'd even accuse me of thinking that. (for the record, I think dubstep and all its constituents are complete garbage.)

I'm saying that Skrillex having those crazy skomars contributing to his live act is fundamentally no different than having a band of supporting musicians. As a matter of principle, there's nothing wrong with having others backing you at a live show as long as you give credit where it's due. David Gilmour tours under his own name, but always gives his entire orchestra and backing band full credit before he even starts to play.

What's curious is how Skrillex feels like he needs to hide it...

^^ who gives a shit if he used to be in an emo band. he isn't anymore and now he's making dope shit all over the place
he literally just made a collaboration with the doors..... the fucking doors. and its awesome.

you sir, are what this post is talking about..

quote, " I would love to see the looks on kids faces at me school if it was true, they're all, OMGEEZ, DID U H3AR THA N3W SKRILLEX? LAWL I LUV DUBSTEPPPP!!!, "

I say we come up with a new word for all this dogshit "club/dubstep/remix" music that pollutes contemporary society. The fact that people refer to it as "music" is just plain offensive to those of us who are actually musically inclined and don't need obnoxious sounds peeling our eyelids back demanding their attention.

my B brah! just in a shitty mood for some reason. as a dedicated musician, I feel ya on every level.

and LOL at the kid who posted the skrillex/doors "collaboration"

first of all, i havent been in highschool for 3 years, but yeah, i do show my buddies new dope music that i find on a regular basis. second of all, dubstep takes up a very small portion on what i listen to on a day to day basis. hip hop > everything.
the only reason half of you fucks hate on skrillex is you're just straight up HATERS (Having Anger Towards Everyone Reaching Success). if he wasn't as "mainstream" as he is now, you'd be all over his dick. EXACTLY like all the kids who hate on Lil' Wayne.
bottom line for me is that skrillex constantly puts out MASSIVE songs and has some of the most fun/raging concerts i've ever been to, whether he mixes live or not.
@elgato
yes, Skrillex teamed up with Robby Krieger (guitar) and Ray Manzarek (keyboards) of the Doors in the studio.
