Skiward summer skiing

What do you guys think the setup is gonna be like at skiward this summer? Think they are switching to snowflex, new rails, longer setup?

Any thoughts or anyone know what the plan for it is?

Don't know what the setup is going to be like, but it's considerably better than nothing. The air bag was a huge addition, really glad they added that. As long as they keep the setup pretty basic by using the long flat box and that black tube they had things should be good.

Has anyone been yet this summer? If so, what is it like?

I haven't been but I drove by the other day, they had the airbag up and I'm pretty sure the long flat box and the black tube were both set up as well. I think its pretty much the same set up as they have had the past few years, I'm just hoping they don't put in the double pvc tubes like the last 2 years.

double pvc tubes are there according to their facebook page, the other feature is the flat bar

did they change to snowflex for the setup or are they still using mSnow?

I heard rumors that they were changing to snowflex but online it still looks like they are using mSnow and I can't imagine they would change that midseason.

damn that would be sick if they switched to snowflex, msnow is ok but kind sketchy. I dont know if they make enough money from the park to actually do it though

I'm trying to go this Saturday, it says the park is closed 2-3:30 or something during that day but if you're there all day you can just eat lunch during that time and it won't be a big deal. Saturday weather looks nice too

heres something we shot yesterday, the tube is a lot of fun

Will be there tomorrow (7/12) with some friends if anyone is down to shred with us, we will probably be filming some too

if there's gonna be a lot of people I'll probably go tomorrow, around what time will everyone be there?

11 to however late, we're planning to hang most of the day, rain or shine.

The double tube feature is there because the owners son is a snowboarder and won't let them take it out, that's what a staff member told me anyways

Is anyone heading up there anything soonish? Trying to get my dad to drive me up and it would be great to meet someone up there

Is this place worth a 2 hour drive? Thinking about going just don't know if it's worth it...

If you're a decent skier it's definitely worth it, my friends and I love to go there and throw down, but way too often I see people show up that clearly aren't comfortable riding and they obviously just aren't going to have a good time. It's a lot of fun if you can ski and are fine with getting cut up a little bit by the msnow

Also, there's supposed to be a rail jam coming up soon. I think it would be cool if they did it again this year, there was a huge turnout last year so I don't see a reason for them not to.

fuck I wanted to actually go there more often this year

may have to "borrow" some of the msnow if thats the case

Just checked ski ward's website, doesn't look like they're bringing back summer skiing this year. Thoughts?

eh it was something to do, but it was less than alright.

I dont think they were getting enough attention for it.

Skiward has potential though if they put a bit more effort into smoothing out their setup - maybe they should make something like Whaleback had a few years back

damn, it would be sick even if they just put 1 or 2 rails up near the bottom for hiking, especially since I work 5 minutes away now. Kind of a shame they didnt do more to promote it or have camps or something, there was definitely potential for them to take it somewhere.

"We will not have the summer park this year, we may setup the big air bag. We are still working out the details."

I'm confused though I can't find them saying this anywhere, even on their facebook they are replying to comments advertising a park for this summer

Not sure where you saw these comments, the most recent comment from them saying they would have a park was in March. Just a few days ago I messaged them after noticing that they were not advertising summer skiing on their website and they responded by saying, "We do not plan to set up the summer park this year, but we may have the big air bag setup. We are still working out the details."

Personally, I always thought the rail park was the best part of summer at ski ward and the bag was just some extra fun, they seem to think otherwise. I'm also not sure what the drawback is considering the only real work required to make the rail park happen is setting it up/taking it down and turning on the sprinklers. I know with tubing that the magic carpet is already running and they are already paying an employee to be there, so unless their insurance is screwing them I don't see a reason to pull the rail park.

You kind of just answered your own question haha I saw it on their facebook. Well yeah it would make sense that you know this since you messaged them privately, but they haven't made any comment publicly about it and I've looked at their website, facebook, twitter, etc. The only time they addressed it publicly they said they would so I'm sure you can understand the confusion

They probably put close to zero thought into the skiing because tubing is where they make all their money. They have weekly birthday parties which =cash while a few skiers paying 10-20$ means nothing to them. The rail park received barely any maintenance(they never changed the setup, the two pvcs, and m-snow coming up in a lot of spots). Whoever is in charge isn't running the skiing part in a way any of us would want it because they don't see the potential for profit. So doesn't really surprise me that they are discontinuing it. Although not sure why they would potentially keep part of it , when it doesn't take much more effort to keep the rails up. Whoever is up top just doesn't care which sucks.

Agreed. Unfortunately, you're right when you say whoever is up top doesn't care or see the potential in the skiing part of their summer program. Freestyle skiing is a huge community and with a little effort, they could have something people from all over would consider traveling for and wanting to be a part of. Obviously, it would be very difficult for them to reach the level of something like Liberty SnowFlex, however, I do think that considering the demand of east coast rail skiers, a little bit of work from them would attract some acknowledgement from our community and end up seriously benefiting them.

tbh I don't think it will change until they hire some new media people, everything about their online presence seems pretty unprofessional/clueless

Spoke to Ski Ward today and they're going to have the airbag up most likely starting this weekend!

Really don't see why they would put up just the airbag, I think more people are willing to make the trip there if the rails are set up too. I talked to a quite a few people who even said that if ski ward allowed it they would come help set up the rails.

I would never make the trip down if it were just the airbag set up. However, if they kept the railpark, I'd probably take 3-4 trips down this summer to shred. The bag is lackluster but the rails are fun to throw down on. Shame though, was really looking forward to getting down to hit the rails. We should voice it with Ski Ward because it can't take much to maintain the park, they usually just have someone at the top controlling the sprinklers which anyone could do.

idk if they'll go back to the way it was this year cause they already used the park msnow for a third tubing lane. It'd be cool if they just put a few up horizontally at the bottom like whalebacks old setup (see pic), taking full laps on the carpet took a while and just hiking the features was easier.
