Skipping DV video, ARGH!!!

I have an old school Optura from 1997, and recently the footage and audio I have been getting from it is really skippy (there will be bars of the picture that are out of place for a second or two, and the audio will have blank spots). At first I thought it was because of dirty recording heads, and indeed right after cleaning them I do notice an improvement, but even when using new tapes without switching brands or anything the problem returns pretty quickly. Is this a sign that I need to replace my recording heads? Is it worth doing, or would ordering parts for such an ancient camera be impossible?
