Skins?

i have never used skins so i dont know but you might have better luck posting on tgr

it depends on the area your touring in. nylon skins tend to grip better but glide worse than mohair skins. mohair skins dont last as long as well. nylons are for steeper shorter tours in lighter snow or tours youd typically do in the states in canada. in europe the snow id a little different and tours are longer and flatter so glide is more important than grip. ive heared that the nylon-mohair hybrids try to combine the best of both worlds actually just combine the worst of them. in terms of brand and model, blackdiamond skins fit any length, and for twin tips i recomend the sts tail attachment. for g3 the expedition is similar to the black diamonds and the alpinist have set lengths and a slightly different tip attachment. ive never skined on g3s but im probably picking up a pair this year. my bds work great though.

mohair are light and sick for longer tours on super light skis, look into coll tex if you're thinking of mohair but be prepared to replace the tip loops because coll tex loops suck balls
i've always had good experiences with bd nylon skins, can't really go wrong there
as for g3, i got a bunch of pairs during the sale a few years ago but i'm really not satisfied. they have a serious glooping problem when it gets warm and they have trouble staying on your skis because they stretch too much and loosen. not to mention they're also somewhat heavy. i've been using them because i have a stockpile but i'd go back to black diamond if given the choice
i have coll tex on my super light touring skis and i couldn't be happier, but i wouldn't use them on my billy goats, i'd get a cheap 130mm skin and cut it down just for shorter tours

i have the G3 Alpinist and like it a lot. I do shorter tours < 2 miles for the most part and throw in a few 10+ mile tours a couple times every season.
The nice thing about the Alpinist is that it fits any tip shape such as my Moment Comi's because of the 2 hooks instead of the usual loop. But I can climb as steep as my bindings will allow me it cascade snow
but get skins. you'll never ski a resort during a powder day again
