Skinning up a mountain.

I bought my first skins this season, and I climbed up a mountain for the first time using my own body power. I figured I would really hate having to skin up a mountain, but it turns out it was super rewarding and I have never enjoyed my turns as much! Skinning up a mountain is a great way to get exercise, access off-piste or backcountry terrain AND its free ! (after you buy the skins..)
Do u guys love skinning up mountains as much as I do?

my next big purchase for sure. i love earning my turns, but have since been to poor to buy the proper equipment. carrying all your gear or your back up gets old quick, but the reward is so worth it. i love it!

ride a donkey ??

jk, its already so rewarding to hike for your turns, i can only imagine how awesome skinning would be!next winter i'm going on a tourski/ski-alpinism course with a friend, i'm so stoked to actually "earn" my turns !

Go back to TGR!!

No, just kidding. It is pretty rewarding to make your own way to the top, and then enjoy the ride down. It's the same way with mountain biking. I love climbing a steep long trail(I've ridden from the bottom to the top of Snowbird)and then flying back down. Of course, if I have the choice of skinning or chair, I'll take the chair.

I have to admit that taking a sled, chair or heli is pretty sweet , and nothing compares to those things in terms of getting tons of vertical in a day. Skinning is different tho. It takes patience and hard work. When i skin up a mountain , i am much more aware of my surroundings, and the natural environment. Once i get to the top, i get an amazing feeling of accomplishment that you just dont get when you take the lift.

When i get to the top, i like to have a big drink of water, a big ass spliff and take a looong ass run down to the bottom :)

the novelty doesn't wear off when you bag a summit while skinning. And once you get in shape, get better technique at laying track and more understanding of the areas you are touring in, you'll surprise yourself as to how much vert you can ski in a day our touring.

do you have proper touring bindings? If you're using trekkers, make it priority #1 to get rid of them and get on some proper touring bindings. Dukes work great, but dynafit's are nice and light. I personally am a bit weary of the dynafit's, but there's rumors that Hoji uses them... if that's true, than shit.

it definately makes you appreciate your turns way more. and you get a different feeling, more in tune with your surroundings. when im on lifts you dont take time to check out the trees, rocks, snow drifts, etc.
earning your turns is extrememly rewarding and enjoyable
