Skin/Ski San Gorgonio Mtn

To everyone living in the LA area. I just moved down to LA from Seattle and I'd read in the winter (snow permitting) you can skin up or boot up San Gorgonio Mtn and ski down. I don't really know anyone into ski mountaineering down here, so I was just putting a feeler out there to see if anyone would be interested in joining? Weather and conditions permitting, I'm aiming to do this on Dec 22nd. Tallest mountain in Southern California. It would be sweet.

I'd totally be interested but I'm 99% sure I'll be back east for the holiday then. I'd definitely be down to go some other time, or skin somewhere else. I haven't done any BC since I left Seattle over a year ago. Where are you at in LA?

i could be wrong but i was under the impression if you are looking to summit it is more then a day hike, ie overnight.

legit mountain. you could always take the tram in PS and tell em you are cross country skiing.

please update with how this goes, really would like to do it someday when in shape.

Yeah, it's a pretty big hike, but not that big. I've done Shasta, Rainier, Adams, Hood, and some other comparable climbs in the north cascades, so this would be much easier than those. Basically depending on how much snow there is, you'd leave at like 3am or earlier and try to summit by 12 or 1 for optimal snow conditions. I'm not sure how consistently the mountain has snow though being that far south.

The tram goes to San Jacinto, not Gorgonio. My understanding is that you need to either due it early season on late season and that the skiing isn't terribly good. But I've never been.

catalogs ever big climb in So Cal and the Eastern Sierras as trip reports, the guy who runs it is on point. Haven't heard much beta from San Gorgonio, but have heard good things about San Jacinto when the weather hits right. If not, Baldy is probably your best bet for a day climb/hike, but check his site out.
