I’ve been tryna figure out why a couple pros don’t have brakes on their skis and thought maybe you guys knew why

hey mason, great question. When pros receive their bindings out of the box, they usually get their shop tech to mount the bindings and during that process they ask the tech to snap off the brakes for them.
That is because Brakes become obsolete once you set your din to 14 since the skis will never actually self eject. Therefore, they are just extra weight on the ski itself. pros need skis to be as light as possible while they are attempting spins of the distant future such as 1980 and 2160.

it's a really stupid idea regardless of your DIN setting; skis still fall off with high DINs and without a brake they can easily fly down the hill before anyone has a chance to grab it
but being a pro skier doesn't exactly guarantee youre a genius so it still happens i guess

Dont ski without the plastic pad of the brake though. It can cause your boot to not sit correctly in the binding and cause poor releasing. Also, just dont ski without brakes. You will realize it's pretty damn stupid when your ski shoots to China and or impales a 5 year old.

If you are serious OP ... Not all binding set ups require brakes. For touring to save weight or for terrain when you can't afford to lose a ski it makes sense to use a leash instead.

My dad was telling me a story about how he was at a freestyle competition back in the day and someones ski ejected and went through a dog going mach 10. Also, crashing with a leash on your ski is like rolling down a hill with swords violently swinging around your legs. If your bindings are too fucked up to put new brakes on, you should make new bindings (or a heel piece) your first priority.
