Skiing without ACL, heal without surgery

I damaged my knee three years ago, without health insurance. Luckily i was able to see a couple of specialists, including us ski race surgeon. he told me to give it time before getting it cut open, and to try and rehabilitate. i started skiing to rebuild strength after the six weeks, trained the entire summer and was able to ski the following season.Years later it feels strong and stable, but it never has been the same. i have an MRI coming up, and plan on getting things fixed at the end of the year. Check out this article, and love your knees.

Interesting article. They never really indicate whether those people had complete tears of the acl which interests me because I was under the impression that a completely severed cal could not heal itself. If you can recover from an acute acl tear without sugary, my docs have some splainin to do.

I know a guy in his late 40s or early 50s who has no ACLs whatsoever and the dude fkn RIPS!

Seriously the shit he does blows my mind and his knees are missing like half the shit in them.

I tore my mcl and partially tore my acl playing ultimate Frisbee in October, and i had surgery last Friday. They used a femoral nerve block on me which helps you not feel anything in that knee for a couple days. Oxycodone, a bunch of really good oil, and sleep help a lot to.I went skiing the saturday before I had surgery with a fancy acl brace, and it felt ok just skiing, even switch skiing, and on some boxes, but when i tried to do even tiny jumps straight-airs hurt.

surgery is a bitch but is worth it in the end

I think that's what they mean here:

This is the first study to demonstrate that patients with low-grade ACL injuries from skiing can heal without surgery.

I tore my mcl and meniscus and tried physical therapy and time to heal and the mcl didn't get much better and my meniscus was a bad tear where blood didn't get to heal so I ended up having to have surgery to fix my mcl and they just removed a portion of my meniscus. After the surgery my knee is strong, if not stronger before (because I built muscle to support it). It always depends per person. With acl I would try to build muscle to support with physical therapy and see if you can get it healed somewhat without first then surgery is always an option. But skiing is kind of a no no during that time if you truly want it to get better

Partial tears of the ACL are rare, since its usually under a good amount of pressure/strain all the time, when it tears it usually just completely goes.

my ACLs and MCLs are gone in both knees, I spend a lot of time in the gym keeping my legs strong but I can ski and do everything juuust fine.
