I have strapped a down bootie that didn't have much of a real sole and then a plastic grocery bag over the cast using a ski strap. Worked pretty well and stayed decently dry. Probably would be too warm in many conditions.

Broke my thumb and did this for one hand. Just need to find a glove big enough.
