Skiing vs. Miley Cyrus

Hey all, my name is Sam and I'm the editor of Skiing Magazine.

You may or may not have seen the cover shot from our Jan '13 issue (below) featuring skier Kevin Brower at Brighton Resort, by photographer Steve Lloyd. Well, it's up for what basically amounts to an Oscar in the media industry: a Readers' Choice Award from the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME).

It bested hundreds of other covers, including Sport Illustrated, ESPN, New York Times Magazine, etc, over ten weeks of voting. Now it's in the final round, against heavyweights like Vogue, New York Times Mag, Cosmo, and more. And cover boy Kevin Brower himself is up against such cover subjects as Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé.

I would love for Brower and Lloyd to crush Miley and Beyoncé. But they can't do it without your vote. If you like this image, I humbly ask you to consider helping it win. Voting is easy. This shot was so much better and took so much more work than the other shots to get, hopefully it wins. Liked and shared.

its cool to see NS support other companies like this! i dont read skiing but i love how the editor of their mag can just come on here and post and be welcomed with open arms instead of it getting deleted
 
Voted and good luck guys! You're up against some pretty crazy competition especially since the primary demographic of ASME readers most likely aren't ski bums or action sports enthusiasts.

Dude we're all about the love up in this piece. We honestly want to foster and support skiing as much as possible - no matter who you are.

Anyway - fuck yes people - get out there, rally the troops - get NSG involved, get your friends, your family... whoever. Lets take down some fucking psycho pop stars.
 
Jesus Christ, almost 15,000 like's for a portrait, just cause its Reedus. Not to mention Mylie's. Sucks that this is just a popularity contest.
 
Voted. It genuinely is a better shot than all the competition, the cosmo cover is incredibly tacky, it upsets my eyes.

Hoping that streams of people who actually have a clue swoop in and vote for some of the better finalists.

People are fucking stupid for voting for a picture I could have taken and edited with my iPhone over the quality action sports shot...
 
If we forced every NSer to vote, we'd win this no contest. Admins/Mods, it's time to do what you do best.
 
i got a bunch of my buddies to vote today and they are going to continue to spread the good word!

even if it doesnt win, its cool to see the ski community reunite for a good cause. and hey second is better than third!
 
Share this link on facebook, there is no reason a really awesome photo should lose to this other garbage! Even non skiers should see that this takes way more talent from an athlete and photographer than anything else in this contest!
 
That's dope as fuck that you're in the running.... but the thing is, many people attempt to judge quality without the knowledge of what quality is. For instance, I bet the cosmo cover has a good chance of winning, but aesthetically it looks like fucking vomit. This seems to be what happens when junk (yet popular) entities are mixed with lesser known high quality ones, the people who try to judge are just fucking retarded. This is so prevalent in music, art, photography, clothing design, graphic design... literally everything artistic is tainted by mainstream junk which has no artistic value.
