Skiing superstitions?

mentioning the ski pole thing. I have had the same pair of beat up poles for the past 5 seasons.

They have separate baskets (lost one while poling through some thick trees). I actually used a pair that I got as a gift as a donor for the basket.

But the most superstitous thing about them is the grips have survived 9 seasons.. and if these babies snap, (they can't last too much longer) i'm going to transplant them again... after cutting the poles down to be exactly 121.5 cms

Do not lose those grips!

I have a ski with stickers on it and a ski with sharpied on graphics... I always have to have the stickers on my left foot and the one with the sharpie on my right foot... Without that I feel uncomfortable for some reason

wow dude thats a crazy story!!

i have one, but its just something i do everytime out. i weave my skis in and out down to the lift. oh and i always start the day off witth the same ski run!! Black Forest-every time at bird

i try not to call last run (i always do though, then i knock on wood, it works)

i always wear my siver belt, if i dont, then i ski bad, i swear.

I carry any change i find that day in my right mitt. I keep exactly 6 pennies in my pocket at one time.

i always have left and right skis and poles. also i only have 3 different shirts i wear under my coat, and i never wear an extra layer under my snowpants. just boxers. and i really don't like to stop for lunch, i find i ski better if i just push all day. thats on the east coast tho, if i were skiing lines out west id probably need to eat.

if im trying a new trick and no iv got a fair chance of not landing it, i always slap myself in the helmet whilst im skiin up the kicker

my poles one day i used different ones and off my first jump they dug into the ground and smoked me in the teeth

i just think about wut im gonna do on the chairlift on the way up and then when im coming down i dont think....~mindless~

i ahve two pairs of lucky pijamas i always where under my snow pants b4 i try gnarly things also one of my poles has to bent a little thats good luck

I have Line Invaders so since they mount them opposite (so one skull is on the top side and the other is on the bottom side) i always keep the skull on the left. Also my bent pull is usually on my right hand.

i listen to journey and sing along on the first ride up chair for the day and then when i get into the park i scream fuck after every hit

actully i dont have any superstitions but someone should do that

Lately it seems as if i've been stomping my skis and clanking my poles together before something big. Don't know why but it gets me pumped.

i always do that, but i also have a left pole and a right pole and a left ski and a right ski. i recently switched hands for my poles and i like it better now though..

i used to have them but after reading this thread i realized that they arent true and that i shouldnt let them get to me.

I also need a lucky pair of gloves. Last week I skied with a new pair and I had 2 hard falls on a down flat down and I have a sore back from the big tables I did

I used to have like 6 beer caps in the pocket of my jacket, each one from a different dank beer that I had consumed while wearing the jacket, but I got a new jacket and bottlecaps have failed to accumulate yet. In time I'm sure they will be full though.

i like shake my jacket before doing a run or doing a trick

its a habit and it makes it more comfy

yeah i always have to wear the same underwear, underarmor, and socks when i ski good. i also buckle my boots to the same exact setting every time. and if i wear my pole straps, i can't do shit.

While listening to "Fuckin wit D'" by DMX, buckle bottom buckle on the right to 2 clicks

buckle bottom buckle on the left to 2 clicks

buckle next bottom buckle on the right to 3 clicks

buckle next bottom buckle on the left to 3 clicks

buckle next bottom buckle on the right to 1 click

buckle next bottom buckle on the left to 1 click

buckle next bottom buckle on the right to 2 clicks

buckle next bottom buckle on the left to 2 clicks

Powerstrap left then right

Pre-Race

Two pole claps infront

Stomp skis

And Go

before each season, and before each comp, i cross my skis by my couch, and kneel beside them, thinking of skiing and cool air. So far, i havent lost a comp, so its working perhaps.

bent pole in the right hand and before i drop i usually say something like "fuck it, the worse that can happen is me dying, no big deal" and then take the snow off my skis

before i drop into trees, i stand sideways and knock the snow off my skis by hitting the tails on the snow... not really superstition, i just seem to do it out of habit

wow, i never thought of it but the day i fell and fucked up my knee, itwas after we decided it was our last run of the night. damn superstitions.

oh and also for ski club, when we go over this specific set of railroad tracks on the way up to the mountain we all lift our legs and touch a screw for good luck. the only times i haven't done it, ive had some gnar crashes and hurt myself somethin' fierce.

i used to have some awsome lucky poles with a drew danbury sticker on one, they were all bent up and all the paint was chipped off but they were good then i broke one in half and was really pissed off, but i still have that pole in my room

i dont think this is superstitous, but i have a very particular way to get dressed:

skins

knee brace

thermal top

thermals

socks

fleece

boots

neckwarmer

helmet

gloves

if i dont do it in order i get kinda disorented, it takes me ages to get ready before skiing

When I get new skis, I try and decide which ski will be my left and right ski, i always choose the ski with the least graphics on it (if applicable) for my left ski. For some reason it gives me the illusion of being lighter or something b/c I tore my ACL in my left knee. I use rental poles. And I never use the skis that I tore my ACL on.

i have a very specific order in which i get dressed and buckle my boots. also, whenever i get to the top of the chair just before getting off, i click my poles together twice and adjust my goggles. that more than anything else is mandatory for me. it's bad luck if i don't and i never forget.

allways sit on the chair with the pole going under my butt towards the left

i just broke/lost my poles so im scared about my new poles being a problem

and ive never hurt myself on a last run but i allways ski like crap and in major pain

black forest haha, is that the one with all the painted creature cutouts and its kind of like a minature skier x course for midgets?
