Skiing on my own.

So for the last week and a bit i've been skiing on my own in a foreign resort. I've found that I just don't progress at nearly the same pace as when I'm skiing with a buddy and get really frustrated trying to practice tricks and not getting them down. I feel like having someone to egg you on and do tricks with helps so much. It's like i wont try anything new or hard because theres no one there to see you do it and also because there won't be anyone there to pick you up if you have a bad fall. :(

the feels man

Gotta come up with a game plan before you get to the mountain. If i'm riding solo I always try to keep in mind the tricks I need to work on, new things I want to try and on what feature to throw it on etc. If I have no 'plan' I end up hot lapping the park doing the same tricks i've been comfortable with (which doesn't lead to much progress) and i'm usually not happy [or leaving] until I meet my goals.

If you see another park rider cruising solo, ask them if they want to play some skate or just take some laps. Make friends - make progress. Otherwise it's earbuds in, stick to the plan and its still a damn good time.

I've only ever skied park with someone else once or twice. I always ski alone, it gets kind of lonely sometimes but if you just talk to the kids at the park and ask them to give you tips on some tricks then you'll end up making friends. And yeah, you definitely have to set goals for yourself for the day to progress

I wish

typical conversation with someone around my age on the lift:

Me: Hi

Them:

Me: The snow is nice today, isn't it?

Them: What?

i gave up and just ski with my parents or by myself when i want to hit actual terrain

I feel you on this one. I try to land and learn tricks that I have been wanting try if I'm riding solo. It helps to an extent but it can get quite boring after a while which is a bummer. Having someone to push you makes a world of a difference. The best solution for this is just to make friends in the park. But when I ride with my buddies I have way more fun. They just don't really ski park which sucks but I still have a hilarious time on the mountain.

yeah man thats the exact same with me. none of my friends really ski park.

Yeah man I know the feels. None of my school friends ski. I usually just talk to random people in the park and get some laps in with them / talk about skiing.

Most people are really cool cause we're all there for the same reason.

there are decent amount of people in your situation (I have seen a ton of these threads- so just ask). I grew up 3 hours from tahoe so all my friends are gapers for the most part. Honestly some of the best days I had were driving up with my mom and lapping the park by myself.

if i do ski with someone I am always waiting for my friends or catering to what they want to do. So when I ski by myself i can just do me and relax.

Same situation here. But I hardly ever see people without their crew in the park.

just don't worry about new tricks and have fun, unless learning new stuff is the fun part. for me i just like going really fast and doing simple tricks on jumps so riding alone is what i prefer. listen to podcasts if you have long lift rides

Hike it up at a popular rail, makes new friends pretty easily. Get stoaked on their tricks, practice yours, give tips, receive tips, meet fellow park brethren. Simple as that.

I actually progress more alone because all I'm thinking about is a new trick, but when I'm with my friends I usually just sike myself out and just hot lap some easy features.

Story of my life. The only one I can really ride park with is my best friend who goes to college quite far away. During winter break we can ride, but other than that I am on my own. It's harder to get into it when you're by yourself. Just sitting on the lift and thinking the whole time fucks with me. When I'm with someone I tend to get lost in conversation and stop thinking about "what ifs." Feeding of each other's vibe helps a lot too. The best way for me to ride alone is to just get myself amped up, watch some edits, listen to good music, and try not to focus on negatives. Also when I ride alone hot laps can only last so long. Sometimes you need to take a couple runs outside of park and reset a bit when you get frustrated.

I don't like skiing solo. It seems like I never go hard because I don't want to get hurt by myself. It can be fun to meet people in the park or on the chairlift though. I've met a few friends like that.
