Skiing Not A Real Sport?

here is a list of my injuries playing baseball:

Torn left miniscus

Seperated left shoulder

Torn Rotator Cuff in my left shoulder as well

Dislocated Right Shoulder

3 concussions

2 broken ribs

injuries in skiing:

strained right mcl, tcl, and acl

shinbang

broken wrist

mind you for the baseball ones i play catcher mostly... it fucking hurts and it takes balls to try and block the plate.

SKiing is definitely a sport. The major difference between skiing and baseball is that skiing is a progressing sport, and it is constantly getting better. Baseball is a boring sport that is exactly the same all the time. Plus skiing is fun and baseball is not.

what about those of us that ski in the winter and play ball in the spring and summer? do i classify in a group?

lots of baseball hate tonight... i love watching baseball (mostly the CUBS!), not really for all the so called "action" that takes place during it cause well all of you know it is a boring sport in a way, i like watching it cause it is a thinkers game, like strategy wise, idk i just like seeing and predicting what the pitcher will throw, and the managers ways of managing...
i wish i could pitch well enough to pitch but i cant so ill just watch...

Skiing is a sport. Baseball is a sport.

The difference is in the facts, however. Skiing is a lifestyle sport, enjoyed by 10 million people aged 7+ (in the United States alone) in 1994. And it's enjoyed by a wider demographic - on any day at your local mountain, you could see a one-year-old skier or a 90-year-old skier. No other sport has this wide of a group participating. Just like golf and tennis, skiing can be enjoyed by anyone at anytime.

In addition, skiers have the opportunity to compete in many different individual events - you could choose slopestyle or pipe, GS or slalom, the choices are there. That's what separates the two, I think - skiing can be as competitive (i.e. comps and rail jams) or as laid-back (hanging out with friends in the park) as you want. You don't have that in baseball.

Finally, baseball as a sport is waning. Since 1987, baseball participation is down almost 3%. Game attendance (by fans) is also down. Baseball was voted out of the 2012 Olympics in 2005 due to its dwindling popularity. And the Super Bowl - not the World Series - was the most watched television event ever this year. In my part of the country at least, it seems that people are caring less about baseball and more about other team sports (like football) and individual sports (like track and skiing).

just don't argue with him, proving that you're more chill than a douchy baseball jock. we all know skiers are doper and gonna go further in life so just let him believe his own little ideas

BHAHABHAHAHAHHAHAHHA...........skiing is so much more physical on your body then baseball is in everyway. The amount of training, and physical developpment that you have to go through to be a competitive skier is so much more intense then anything baseball throws out. In ski racing your performance is directly effected by what shape your body is in.

To take part in of fastest non-motorised sports in the world, you have to be fit.

i have one thing to the people who talk about injuries in skiing and baseball.........you can DIE skiing.

You can't DIE playing baseball. Avalanche, extreme trauma, long falls, exposure. The injuries you can inflict skiing are so much worse then baseball....you can't even compare. Do baseball stadiums have helipads because they are worryed their players are going to get hurt? No.

Then we can talk about long term issues of skiing, such as knee problems, Artrithus ( spelling is wrong i know), loss of flexibility, loss of ability ( not being able to bend down, or walk). I could go on for hours. Skiing has much more risk, and risk of injury then baseball. If you don't believe me, ask any Ski patrol.

yeah, skiing has worse injuries, but i get annoyed by people saying you CANT get hurt playing baseball... i got a damn concussion from a pitcher chucking one at my head and from blocking the plate.

Well, you can die smoking crack. So is that a sport?

For real, I understand your point, but I don't think it makes skiing any more or less valid than baseball. Yes, there is more immediate risk in skiing, but do you think having a line drive hit at your head (as a pitcher) isn't a risk? Try it sometime.

Baseball has plenty of long-term issues also. Do you know anything about Sandy Koufax? Great pitcher in the sixties, had to quit because of arthritis-related arm problems. Years after he finished playing, he would wake up and not be able to bend his left arm or pick things up normally. He's just one of many examples. I'll give you that the risk is more prevalent in skiing, but don't say it doesn't exist in baseball.

I ski (obviously) and play baseball, and both are sports. Is it necessary to tear baseball down just to prove skiing is a sport? I don't think so.

haha hmmm baseball's definitely not the sport that has the largest problem with steroid use!I agree that baseball is a sport, but it's only enjoyed by particular people. Also anyone else find it ironic that baseball is "America's greatest past time" while we Americans have the highest rate of obesity?
oh btw the beijing olympics was the last olympics to include baseball; it's too boring and practically no other countries enjoy it. I'd rather watch old men play chess hahajust my opinions though

I think baseball is a sport, but honestly man, its more on the level of shuffleboard and golf. Whats funny to me is of most sports, baseball uses the least physical activity, but the guys eat roids all day long for some reason. Imagine of skiers used roids, the average kid would be trowing tripple cork by now. I would much rather be able to throw a double back then throw a ball at 95 mph, and i don't even have to become impotent or suffer congential heart failure to do it!
