I'm a senior in high school and got into U of Montana, not sure if i'm gonna end up there, but where do people that go to U of m usually ski?

ya man, snowbowl sucks (they only have the most vertical in the state next to big sky),, and yeah lost trails park is SICK????

snowbowl would be cool if it wasnt a solid sheet of ice 80% of the year and the owner pulled the dick out of his ass and put in a decent terrain park. Losttrail gets tons of snow has tons of fun ass lines you can ski and has a really fun park.

there are a ton of threads on this.

every single one will say the exact same things.

1.Claim: snowbowls park sucks. Fact: there is no park at the bowl. so therefore it can't suck. It also lacks groomed runs or grooming at all really. On the plus side there are very few little kids there, college freshmen in bright colors, or gapers. Snowbowl is for people who believe in "more carve less jib" style skiing and if they want to get gnarly aren't afraid to go there. The bar is also the greatest place in the world. period. anyone who disagrees I will fight.

2.Claim: Lost Trail is the greatest place in the world. Fact: LT puts on a decent park, gets pummeled with snow, and is pretty inexpensive. It's also so not steep in most places that it sucks if the snow gets too deep because you can't get speed. There is also a ton of families and small children there, and the percentage of freshman and highschool kids in bright colors is among the highest in the state.

3.Claim: Big Mountain is better. Fact: Big mountain in a lot of ways is better, it's got amazing terrain, deep snow and a solid park, and fast chairlifts. On the negative side the chairs are arranged in such a dumb manner that most of the time you spend skiing is run outs back to the chair instead of shredding top to bottom. That gets annoying as hell, and there is nothing to do in whitefish...

4. Claim: Move to Bozeman. Fact. Bozeman has a bunch of really big hills all located really close to it. It's also got the highest tourist content in Montana which kills coming to montana. Big sky is rad, but rocky and hella expensive, bridger is sick, but only the upper half, and it gets skied out quick. And MSU has way more dudes than girls, which is pretty lame, as well as the town which is geared a lot more around tourism than being a place to live. That might be fun for people under 25, but it gets old fast.

As you can see each place has its pros and cons. pick your style and run with it.

hey this is Brian!

yea idk how i knew that was you from reading your post and just by looking at your profile... whatever

First of all The Bowl does not suck! There is so much shit and so many places that you can find deep deep pow on a good day. You can get out of class and be on the hill 20 mins later PBR in hand!! Ill take that any day! However, yes the owner does and deserves a ski boot in the ass to replace that massive tree! LT is super sick. Deep pow tons of lines and its got a decent park. Big Mountain...Cant beat it! Snowbowl is where its at though!!

if i lived in missoula id get a pass to the bowl and a tenday to LT. LT has soo much hidden terrain its rediculous you just have to know were to go.

Terrain park test run

Last month, Gregg Janecky, an enterprising University of Montana student and a freestyle skier and snowboarder, towed three rails and a bunch of barrels up the windy road to Montana Snowbowl. Those items are the making of an experimental terrain park set to debut on the ski hill this winter.

"I've been in Missoula for about four years now," Janecky says, "and I watched the end of the tiny terrain parks fall apart and go away...And so last spring, with the help of a couple local shops, I put together a proposal that I submitted to Snowbowl."

The proposal, sent to Snowbowl owner Brad Morris in May, requested permission to build and organize a terrain park one weekend per month during the ski season to demonstrate the worth of the project. Snowbowl accepted, perhaps signaling a willingness to finally embrace a terrain park Missoula freestyle skiers and riders have long desired.

"At the end of the year, hopefully I can prove to them that they want to take this on as a full-time part of their resort," says Janecky, 21.

Janecky's dubbed the all-volunteer effort the Backwoods Project, soliciting support from local businesses and groups such as Backcountry Racks and Skis, Edge of the World, the Montucky Snowboard Team and Wolff Auto. He created a website, and he's been up on the Snowbowl run High Roller planning the park.

Could the Backwoods Project be the beginning of a permanent terrain park at Snowbowl?

"It just depends," Morris says. "These terrain parks require a lot of maintenance. The thing that's happened a lot of times at Snowbowl is that we have enough different kinds of natural terrain that people lose interest in them. But with more of an organized event, I think it's a better way to do it."

On Nov. 12, Edge of the World and KBGA 89.9 FM will present two snowboard video premieres at the Wilma Theatre with proceeds to benefit the project.

It could turn out pretty cool, there are alot of jibbers in MIssoula (mostly snowboarders)

^ That would be really sick... I would love to help out with this. Anyone know the guy thats trying to do this?

It will not happen...the owner will not let anything go up because some kid got broke off two years ago in the mini that the guys from Edge set up and threatened to sue....dont get your hopes up!

I know gregg, he is a legit dude, he already got the plan approved by the owner so if everyone helps out it might work

Im just saying that they wont let it happen like he thinks it will happen...if it does awesome but from what ive heard and I wont say where i heard it its all a pipe dream pretty much... I wish it was a dream about getting a pipe at the bowl though!

They are going to let it happen like I think it will happen, I am not afraid of hard work and I am expecting no help from the resort. This is not the first time I have done this, and this time I am in a town that supports it. I have some leverage in this, so there is a shot it will work out. If they shut it down they suck, and I go to plan B which is not good for snowbowl. I never expected them to say yes or let it go this far. It would be sick and a lot less work for me if the park could be at snowbowl. The Backwoods Park is happening, and it is happening in Missoula.
