Skiing is getting strange

Before that everyone was trying to be everyone else soooooooo...

People seem to get upset that the bunch is copied, or even dislike the bunch because people are emmulating them. The fact is though that only a few people are truly innovators. The bunch has innovated a pathway that seems accessible. Thats a beautiful thing. Compare it to the innovation realskifi or stept. People thought it was cool in different ways (holy creative, or holy huge), but no one was really compelled to do it for various reasons.

Enter The Bunch, who are 10 or so individuals who are all innovators by some miracle of odds and they've paved a new path for the masses to become inspired by. Jlev likes to say that it's just skiing, and I dont agree with that across the board, but here is a place where I do. We are all trying to do something different with our skis besides just get down the hill faster than the next person. These swedish kids have build upon what they saw and evolved our realm of possibility.

The haters need to realize that innovators like this don't come along every season. I'd say this goes down on a large scale every 5-7 seasons. So if you hate the way The Bunch skis you either need to go do something cooler or realize you are attached too an antiquated style focused on maximizing rotations and deal with that.

Stop watching edits/leave the park and go out skiing. Everyone is still doing daffies and massive straight airs like normal. Shit's been the same ol' fun since the Jackson Hole Air Force.

i think that "trend" of this bunch-tye skiing is a part of the equation but i think for most people it is just a new way of skiing to try and experiment with, especially when basic tricks get tastless and bland. just my 2 cents.

I put this out there.

I don't care much to watch any skiers or edits.

The dudes from the bunch are creative, and have a different style.

I also have my own style. I'm also here to have fun and be better as a whole.

Stop being bitter. Start being better.

Look at other groups of skiers (mole squad, tall t Dan, etc)

They don't care about anyone's opinions; they're here to have fun.

That's it. That's all.

Not hating on the bunch but i feel like everyone is trying to be them. I feel like edits now are mostly handplants and nose taps

I agree when did it become cool to hit 2 foot jumps and do tail presses down stairs with a hand drag shits as gay as aids..

The guy we need to emulate is Noah Albaladejo that kids on another level.. Along with Phill and edollo.. Sure the bunch style of skiing is fun to do.. But don't film that shit -and out an edit.

Why not both? You can't deny some of the stuff the bunch is doing is on another level, as are noah, phil and henrik. Skiing's getting pushed in so many different ways it'd be dumb to classify a whole faction of it as "gay as aids"

This seems like the type of subjective comment you should make to your like-minded friends, not start a NS thread on. These bunch debates need to stop, they are aids.

I completely agree with this sentiment. Why the fuck do you guys keep trying to classify style as some cookie cutter argument? What makes style so unique is that it is something someone develops over time and makes into their own and the BUNCH have done just that. Of course there will be copycats of popular styles but the ones that stand out at the end of the day are the ones that are innovative and pushing the sport, which in turn ends up causing debates like this thread.

Why the fuck do people still care about how others ski? Ill say it, I dont like the bunch but I can say the way they ski, looks like theyre having fun and theyre still nasty in general. I just hate the hand motions and the other weird shit they do and like said earlier, tail pressing over small ass jumps just doesnt look "sick" to me.

Some runs Ill ski like I usually do, a more competition, make everything look fluid and clean type style and other runs ill fuck around and ski like casabon or just someone the opposite of my style, I may look like an idiot but its fun to ski different ways sometimes.

Just ski however you fucking want to and when it comes to edits, dont watch edits of skiers you dont already like to watch.

Yoke get your shit together, you should know there was zero originality in skiing before the bunch.

I reallllllly hope I just need to check my meter and that you're trolling. Yoke's comment is spot on.

The bunch has popularized a style that had been lurking around for a while. Some of what they do is truly innovative, but plenty of other pros do mind bending shit too. I like watching them ski but watching kids trying to imitate them just gets corny. I know, just let people ski. But if you point a camera at yourself you are asking to be critiqued.

The thing that annoys me is that people have this perception of the bunch as being 100% original. People have been doing weird creative stuff in skiing for much longer than these guys. A lot of what they do has already been done. And they aren't the only ones innovating right now. I'll watch a random edit from a kid at ruka or an edit from edollo and see much more in it than a bunch edit. And why isn't keeshlife bigger than it is?

I honestly think that huge part of the bunch emulation phase is due to how they dress. Kids latch onto it almost as much as the skiing style. Obviously people can't do the same crazy shit magnus does but they can look like him. This is just ski culture at its finest though, nothing new OP.

Very true.

Particularly when you are in a comfort zone and not being challenged by the terrain opening it up and changing things can be a lot of fun and can help you get confidence when you have to make split second decisions. Goofing off in the moguls can give you a lot of confidence and help your mogul game. Etc etc etc.
