Skiing in ohio

I am going to college in Ohio, Mad River and Brandywine mountains would be ~1 and ~2 hours away from me. My home mountain is covered by the epic pass as well as these two. How are the park situations at these places? Skiing in ohio seems so foreign, but I have high hopes for upcoming college winters.

Brandywine is a chill place with a decent park, but the crew puts up some whack features sometimes. Shelling out the $40 to grab a day pass at Snow Trails isn't a bad idea every once in a while. What school are you going to?

I’m a brandywine local. It’s super chill there and the vibes are tight, the park being as small as it is. That being said the parks have taken a hit in the recent years, but might a slight comeback this year so I’m hoping for the best. Still some super fun features. Boston mills also gets really rowdy, and the new head of the park at alpine valley really stepped up there game this year.

ive never been but I hear mad river is basically the same.

snow trails on the other hand is known for greats parks. I’ve also never been but if it’s close it sounds like the best.

the bw park was lacking the last few years but this year it was actually decent. If you can, I would just go to snow trails tbh, the park is so sick there. Or if you dont mind the drive, Holiday valley is probably the best place close to ohio. Seven springs is also a great option.

The skiing at both places can be fun. Boston Mills too is about 3 miles from Brandywine. However you may want to remove the mountains from your expectations. Sides of small hills is more accurate haha

For college skiing, I recommend just going to the closest place so you maximize the amount of time on snow. Also if your college has a ski club, get involved with that or start one, because you can usually line up discounts on stuff and sometimes use college vehicles.

Go to snow trails. They have a longer season and better parks than bmbw and mad river. It's not on epic pass though, but I can give you a discount code that takes their season pass down to 250

The parks at mad river and brandywine will continue to decline under vail's rule. At brandywine this past season, vail wouldn't even give park crew 700$ that they needed to finish a new large rail that they began welding last year. Park crew had to pay out of their own pockets to finish the rail. It's sad.

90% of the videos on my profile were filmed in Ohio if you're curious what our parks look like

Are you going to Ohio State by chance? I'll be there next year and the ski and board team all gets passes to snow trails. I live 15 minutes from brandywine when I'm at home, and I still drive the extra hour to snow trails because brandywine is that bad. Snow trails will push to open asap every year when bmbw aims for mid to late December. They won't get a full park build until late January which is so annoying. So yeah, vail ruined the ohio resorts. I'd recommend snow trails all day.

Denison—like 35 minutes east of Ohio State (and Columbus)

Jokes on you Ohio doesn’t actually exist.... the government wants you to think it a real place but it’s actually a portal to a new dimension or existence

I learned how to ski in PEI Canada. I can pretty much guarantee Big Boulder is better in every respect than Brookvale.

Last season was my first full season riding Ohio as my main area, and it was pretty damn fun. The vibes are always top notch and there's a very solid ski scene. BMBW/AV had a few really fun builds last season and a few kinda eh builds. Took em a while to get fully firing too. You won't get huge features, but between the three resorts (all Epic) you'll usually have one fun build to choose from.

That being said, Peek'n Peak and Snow Trails aren't owned by Vail and both go hard with their parks. I have way more experience with Peak (been my home hill since I was like 10) and will always recommend it if you like park. Very slept on and very fun features, plus the new park manager is really pushing to step it up even more this coming season.

At the end of the day if you like sliding rails you'll have fun in Ohio.

Cleveland native here. BMBW sucks but it usually leads to a fun crowd of people in the park, no one taking themselves too seriously.

The drive to 7 springs is worth it on weekends.

Mad River in Columbus has the most consistent park setup. BW can be nice but it takes them a while to get it together.

Where u going to school OP?
