So, I'm living in Vienna this fall/early winter for school/ski pole company and I'm looking for info on sking over there. I tried posting in the regionals forum but it doesn't look like many people ever go in there so I though I would try in here. Anyone ski out of Vienna?

Yeah there are some good places in austria. I really like St Anton is has a good town vibe and the skiing is brilliant the park is quite good on rendal mountai , but i don't think the resort will be open in fall. I'm going to a place called Hintertux late october, its a year round resort witha a sick park.

Spring wasn't an option, my ski pole manufacturer is based out of Austria so I'm going over there to visit the factory and do some work on next seasons poles, plus I need to be back in Colorado for ski season and run my business!

i went there two summers ago for a race camp and its pretty nice. I only skied where the glacier was becuase it was summer... but it would be awesome in the winter i think. definitely worth your time to go check it out at least.

Seeing as I'm from the other side of the pond I may be able to help you out.

The top snow-sure resorts:

Hintertux

Karpun

Stubaier Gletscher

Zell am See

Those are all glaciers, then other places to definately check out are Schlamding, it's not a big resort but last year it opened up in November! Then another great place is Saalbach am Hinterglemm which has 3-4 different parks and a lot of terrain to cover. There is also places like Obertauren

Out of the resorts I've listed I've only been to saalbach and the stubaier gletchser, stubai isn't really park-orientated or backcountry for that matter, it's more of a family place..

One guy mentioned St. Anton, definately go there. The ski pass also covers a small nearby resort called Sonnenkopf am Arlberg, it's a really small resort but with huge open bowls and some good tree skiing. I was lucky enough to be there in easter when it dumped overnight and bluebird by day. Some of the best powder I've skied.

Also, Vienna is quite a way from the Salzburger alps sadly, but you should check out the salzburg super ski pass which gives you access to 23 huuuge resorts and a net total of 2,200km.

Hope that helped!

Thanks for all your help everyone, this is all very good info. Atomic Super Park looks sooooo sick and I can ski there all fall, now I just need to find out how far away Dachstein is.
