Skiing at UBC (Vancouver)

As a prospective college student and skier, I'm very interested in University of British Columbia, Vancouver. I'm wondering how accessible skiing is, whether or not it's just park laps at Grouse or heading up to Whistler. How's the snow out there, as an east coast skier I see it as an upgrade but I'm not sure if it's what it's cracked up to be.

I'm from Vermont (well born in Ontario but yeah) and moved out to Van to go to UBC in 2010. Great school. Many ridiculous times were had over my 4 years. Personally I only rode whistler (basically every weekend). In first year there were busses that would come to campus and take you right up there ($20 a ride maybe?). By second year I had met enough kids who had vehicles through ski and board club that I could carpool with people a bunch.

The local mtns (grouse seymour cypress) are really fun for evening park laps or just ripping around with a couple cold cruisers. If I could change anything I would have had a vehicle during university. There is sooooo much BC has to offer but living on campus you really are in a bit of a bubble and have to rely on public transit if you don't have a vehicle.

feel free to PM me here or on insta @maxbailey.ca if you have more questions. the regionals forum is basically dead here.

oh and the skiing is fucking sick. not sure why you're wondering that!

park, pow, steep lines, pillows, whatever you want whis and the backcountry around whis can deliver. just takes some time to learn the mountain and find the zones you like most.
