Skiing armor/ protection

How much does skiing armor and protection really do for you when skiing like how much could it help you from getting hurt on a bad fall.

I use to only wear a helmet, but nowadays I wear a back protector and hip pads. I got a hematoma on my hip in December, and it's still there. I've also hurt my back many times.

I know helmets do the most for you; can prevent concussions, brain damage and stuff. Hip bad prevent some gnarly bruises and just annoying pain from falling on rails and some jump tricks. Back protectors definitely help your spine but I don't fall on my back too much so I don't use one

I've hit my head a few times while skiing and luckily always wore a helmet. I've only gotten one concussion and that sucked so I never take my helmet off to hopefully never get worse than that.

I wear hip pads, and back/rib protecter. Saved me a few times. I would much rather be safe by wearing them, than sorry.

I ski with a helmet and a back protector. I think that the helmet is essential for safety, it has saved me from serious injuries many times. I wear the back protector (scott) and crashpants mostly when I'm learning some new rotations or jibs.

Same it went away finally like a month ago... it hurt so much when I would re fall on it.lol

Been wearing a helmet and backprotector for many years now, doesn't feel right skiing without them anymore. I managed to wreck myself pretty bad in Jan 14 but the back protector and helmet probably saved me from a serious injury.

I always ski with a helmet and I recommend it always. I also have a hip thing that I only wear when I am spending my day in the park.

Back protector is great. I look like a damn turtle but I'm fine with that since it saved me from breaking my back on a rail on a day where everything got dried out and super sticky.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned knee pads. I'm thinking about getting some but I believe they don't do much in terms of ACL. Anyone use knee pads in the park?

I always where a helmet and try to use goggles whenever I can (Your eyes are important and they can also aid in a face first fall. I also where POC hip padding. I'm thinking about investing in a vest but I'm not sure yet. As for how much it can protect you, I guess that depends on the circumstances. I got a pretty bad concussion last year despite wearing a helmet however I can recall several times that my brain bucket saved me. When it comes to hip padding, I can guarantee you that after one day of wearing them you will never leave without them.

I'm surprised by how many kids just leave their goggles on their forehead all day. I had a branch destroy my goggles last season and they easily saved my eye.

Knee pads won't do shit in terms of the mechanism of most skiing knee injuries, they do precisely nothing to brace the knee. A few people split a Patella from time to time but it's pretty damn rare and the restricted movement would be a pain in the ass.

I always wear back protector and upper leg protector (protects cocyx, side of quads). I dont notice wearing it now but even if I did, it's soooo worth it. Back protector is a must, more important than helmet imo. Legs is only for rails, and has saved me quite a few times. I remember taking a fall to the leg on a rail without it, could bary walk for a day and was painful for almost a week. Not a must, but can be useful af.

I used to wear balls protector when i started rails, but tbh i've nutted myslef like 3 times without it and it was never too bad, guess i got lucky. Im keeping it for whenever i hit a gnarly ass high af rail though.

I stopped using goggles cause everytime I did a flip, they slid around on my face and I couldnt see. I only wear them when it's super cold out. When it's snowing or sunny I'll wear sun glasses and take them off when im hitting jumps.

I wear a helmet, back/rib protector and butt pads as i call em (hip pads). I wear them for 49% protection and 51% confidence, or maybe its the other way around, idk, but they help so much when you fall, you barely feel it (obviously depending on the fall), and it makes me way more confident to try new tricks.
