Skier Safety Act

Okay, so I fucked up. Anyone have any information about what kind of criminal penalities I might get for breaking the skier safety act in Colorado?? It was pretty much a ski ui

I pulled an all nighter, got drunk, ducked a rope and fell asleep. Now my pass is taken away, and got a mip and violating the skier safety act tickets

I always thought that the skier safety act was just a thing the tourism council wrote on signs and lift tickets to deter gapers from doing dumb stuff...

I don't know about the laws in Colorado, but I all I got for getting caught out of bounds was a citation. You're fine, dude.

Yeah, the courts are going to say "You ducked a rope on a mountain and fell asleep all by yourself! 20 years in prison!!"

they can't do a damn thang, so just keep doing your thang

On my ticket both that and the MIP are listed as summons... haha I fucked up bad, but supposedly i threw a backflip first jump of the day, which is a first for me

yeah the MIP might change things for you. They may act as if you put other people in "danger," whatever that really means.

Exactly, and got a nice sled ride since they said they were required to. Im pretty embarassed by the whole thing. No more colorado pass for me for a while. I just hope they dont dry to pull some like drinking and operating a vehicle shit

pretty sure youll get an 1000$ fine, its depends on the situation

(3) No skier shall ski on a ski slope or trail that has been posted as "Closed" pursuant to section 33-44-107 (2) (e) and (4).

(12) Any person who violates any of the provisions of subsection (3), (9), (10), or (11) of this section is guilty of a class 2 petty offense and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars.

sometimes it will be a small fine, sometimes its community service too, and then sometimes its the whole 1000$. you should describe the situation a little more. did you "duck a rope"? ski out of bounds? ski on a closed run w/ snowmaking? it all depends, that's why you're going to court.

you wont get $1000 fine. If you're really interested look the law up online or go to your library and see what the penalties are for each offense. I work for a state and write tickets and I'm sure you know they're are different penalties for each offense. sometimes first offense is a warning, sometimes its a fine but you wont know that unless you look it up in your state laws.

dude move to washington.... here you duck a rope and they give you money and film you. we have no skier saftey act. sorry about that though dude.

I had no idea there was such thing as the skier safety act.Whatever happened to ski at your own risk?

Yep, i think i know who you are talking about... shit got a little hazy. They still have my skis because i got brought out by a cop. Even though they said if i cooperated he wouldnt be called.

wow. this sounds pretty fucked up. it's time for you to move out of CO... but THE MAN will not let that happen very easily if you got an MIP too.

you should explain what actually happened if you want a actual answer

CO and CA have skier safety acts. CO's is better and more up to date. States w/o them are just places waiting to have their ski resorts sued up the ass. The whole boyne resorts/quadriplegic thing from a couple years ago sound familiar?

I partied pretty late the night before, woke up the next morning and took some of my anti anxiety medicine becaus i had a terrible hangover. Forgot that i had taken it and had a couple of drinks and got just way too fucked up and fell asleep. Thats pretty much it, other then it was on upper park lane which wasnt open at the time.

hahahaha, so you passed out on the hill, then were woken up by ski patrol being like wtf is this kid dead?

yeah id say youll get a bigger fine vs a lesser one, depending on the judge theyll say something like what if a snowcat/snowmobile/vehicle of some kind didn't see you in the middle of the night and ran you over and killed you. the fact that you got an mip too kinda fucks you over more than w/o one. if you were 21 they would probably let you go w/ something minimal.

Sounds like you're kind of fucked, but it seems pretty serious for something quite small. What is this "skiers safety act"? i've never heard of it.

If you're skiing so hammered that you don't remember doing back flips, you have worse things to worry about. ... like how fun it's going to be to not be able to wipe your own ass.

Advice to you would be to show up to court dressed nice. Tell the judge that this is not the way you normally are. Tell him your girl friend dumped you or something. I would take this very seriously if I were you, because this will show up on your record and will f_ck with you for the rest of your life. Later on when you are interviewing for jobs, you will have to explain this.

I was a head hunter and this is exactly the kind of thing that will keep you from getting hired. Whatever the judge suggests you do, do it without complaint. If it means tongue scrubbing the urinals in the court house to get this dismissed, you should do it.

what the hell are you talking about?? You duck a rope and your pass is gone. plus if its your third offense your fined and banned from the mountain. so don't know what he's talking about. but dude i'm sure you'll less than the grand fine, prob about 500. and community service due to the MIP. but nothing like super serious.
