Ski workout

Ski season is almost here in Europe and I can already feel my legs aching after the first run. Anyone got a good ski workout for the gym or know what any of the prooooooo's do for dry land. Jon had a pretty solid video up but would be interested to hear if anyone does anything in the off season or not...

I've done a lot of stuff in the past for skiing and mountain biking and have spent a lot of time with trainers. You can lift weights all you want but it's the balance exercises that really work wonders for skiing. Things with medicine balls, those really large gym balls, and agility workouts really help. When I'm not at school I'll post a link to some of the best exercises that you can do for overall leg and core strength.

Sweet thanks.
I've been doing some balancing stuff but would like to combine it with some general strength and core.

legs and core

i dont know any exact workouts but get you quads, hamstrings, and glutes. abs, obliques, lower back.

double post.

if you have a bosu ball or have on at the gym, use it for calf raises, squats, lunges, whatever you can. the extra need to balance will work your core on every exercise.

Stretch before and after you ski.

Before do some squats and work with medicine bells. Do some leg kicks against a wall.

After, do some cool down things before you sit down for the end of the day.

I disagree with most of the balance training. Standing on a balance board or bosu ball is not the same as skiing. These balance tools are an unstable surface you are standing in a static position on, whereas skiing you are on a solid surface, exerting pressure. There's been a lot of debate about this in the fitness community over the years.

For most of you, strength is what you need to improve, especially the 6'0 140# skinny aliens. Do heavy squats (3-6 reps), deadlifts and presses. For conditioning, hill sprints, C2 rowing, tabata bodyweight stuff (push-ups, sit-ups etc), burpees and do some longer endurance stuff (5km/10km trail runs) once in a while. Hiking with a pack for a day is also good.

youtube BOSU ball agility. Sh@t is sick for balance, core, and legs. I have been working with a trainer for 2 months and my legs are rock solid, balance is better than ever. I am more confident than Ive been in years. My trainer worked with some colligiate skiers and found that the BOSU ball was very beneficial, I agree. If you are more interested I can email you exact BOSU excerises.

kyle harrisons lacrosse workout always gets me in good shape, and i also cant wait for the zugspitez (sp) to open here in germany.

Keep running, get an exercise bike (or something you can work your leg muscles with without your legs taking the weight of your body), squats and sit-ups in sets each day. Boom!
