Ski Wax

For all you self tuners out there, do you have a favorite wax? For the longest time I've just been using the cheapest cold weather wax I could find on Amazon until if finally decided to spend more than $20, the results have changed me for the better. So with that I ask: What are the best ski waxes out there?

I just personally use a base prep from Swix. It's basically universal, except for the absolute coldest of cold days but I will have more important problems at that point.

But, having a proper base structure, a clean base (done thru hot scraping), and a properly brushed based are going to be equally if not more important that the brand of wax you use.

Base prep with whatever wax I have available , and I try to treat with an appropriate hf wax for specific temp range as needed

Dominator Jaques got me stuck on Dominator wax. Shit is expensive but literally the hardest wax I've ever used. Fast and lasts long. Only complaint is how much of a bitch it is to scrape off. Also got a block of warm weather swix wax for spring.

I also used to use some shitty indie wax that is no longer in business. Thought it was great at the time but now not so sure.

I nerded out a bit 2 seasons ago with various waxes and waxing techniques. In the end, I never noticed much of a difference so I decided to just stick with Hertel all temp race wax and Purl all temp, warm, and base prep wax. These two brands seemed to fit in to the "set it and forget it, can't complain" category of waxes.

Only strong recommendation I have is to NOT use Wend's base prep wax. Those things were sticky and annoying af to scrape off.

I got a sample of the purple purl just waxed some skis with it guess we will see how it does. Interested in [tag=189437]@DominatorJacques[/tag] wax too where can I get it?

They call me Dominator, but I just use the wax. In Bend, I get it at The Race Place.

Here is the site link.

They have a list of dealers, and all of them sell online too.

Yeah was wondering if it is any good, would be good to buy eco friendly wax but not sure if i could justify it if the wax isn't good.

Is this any good? I've been using Swix universal, but I'm interested in trying out Mountain Flow

Agree, snagged a brick of it from a rep and was really impressed. Also smells divine

Ha ha! Perfume does not make a wax any better. I remember a guy brought me some skis to service. He had a coat of One Ball J on them. I told him to never bring me skis with that wax on them ever again. It was the worst! Like standing by someone that way over did it with the perfume x 10!

Dominator, made in the USA with zero perfumes!
