Shut up hippy, and driving your car up to the mountain with fiberglass infused skis is good for it? I am glad some wholefoods esque company can charge twice as much for subpar wax because it is soy based. The sooner you give up on the environment the sooner you will reach enlightenment.
You do realize that there are more carbon emissions released from cultivating and processing the soy and making the packaging than would ever be realised through you waxing your skis. You nuevo environmentalists can never see anything from more than one side. I hate how you all took this topic to heart because you saw some demagouge on the daily show pouring his heart out about it with some funny quips thrown in to win you over to his side.Â
the article has nothing to do with what you are talking about
ski wax contains potential carcinogens, this isnt a discussion about carbon emissions, its a discussion about putting toxins into local ecosystems, which could have long lasting effects on animal life and even human life (pesticides like ddt did the same thing)
So shut the fuck up already. You tried to talk big but you are just as stupid as the people you posture yourself as being above.
There is nothing about skiing that is good for the environment. They clear cut moutains to make runs, snowmaking uses energy and resources, the making of the equipment we use is harmful, advertising is generally wasteful, when gear is old we throw it out, traveling to the areas uses fossil fuel. The list can go on. Skiing is not green, accept this or don't, but it is. Not to mention the wildlife that becomes displaced.
True. I would be interested to try these alternative waxes, but most likely I'll keep using the swix I get for free at the shop. Wax is carcinogenic (sp?), a feasible alternative would be good. There are things being done to offset the carbon footprint at my home area, and I think that is great. I just don't ever want to see the day when the sport I love becomes extinct because environmental laws deem it too wasteful. Years ago , at Vail, some environmentalists set fire to one of thier buildings. This was a dumb move because it only took more resources to build it again. I know they are the vast minority, but it kinda shows how many groups view our sport.
Has anybody considered that purl might be decent? well, i just waxed my skis with it, and i noticed no major difference than with my flouro wax. sure it may in theory be faster, but thats like saying how race skis will be faster than twin tips but still, nobody complains twin tips are too slow. if you can really feel the purl wax slowing you down too much, then use your regular stuff. for me, the difference doesn't bother me and i'd rather do my part of using enviroment-friendly wax. give it a shot at least
Nobody is arguing that skiing is green. Howeve, it's the actions that we take to balance what we take.
Anyways this has nothing to do with the topic of flouro wax versus alternatives. You obviously didn't take a good look at the link. It's about putting poisonous chemicals into the water table which can have long term harmful effects to humans
You didn' read my next post, but thats ok. I had just finished a conversation about the environmental impacts of skiing with a friend and I think I was a little hot on the topic, my bad. It is great that we are striving to lessen our impact. I think it is a wise development and environmentally prudent direction even if its results are not that significant at this point.
If you leave them long enough, the bases will shrink from being dehydrated and separate from the edges.
And you will be permanently slow.
Or you could just wax like twice a season and not have to care as much.
how bout you shut up. like you say its bad and we know it but most people dont have th convenience of living right by the mountain. but every small thing helps. pick up trash on the hill if you see it. recycle a bottle. every little thing helps. and we cant avoid all polution but cutting down on what we can is a start. and you should give up on skiing just like you gave up on the environment
haha nicee dude..
Yeah people here in Tahoe are kinda worried about this cuz we are super protective over keeping our lake the clearest and cleanest in north america.
