Ski Tuning: Bevel Arrangment

I have some 09' k2 extremes and i was wondering what angle edge bevel i should be using to tune them. i race so i know my gs skis are 3 and sl are 1. but what is a good bevel for a park/all mountain ski. i dont want to fully detune or anything for rails because i like the allmountain performance.

any help?

i was thinking 92 degrees? in the middle of the 93 (gs) and 91 (sl).

but again i dont know what park skis are generally tuned too.

i mean are you planning on hitting rails at all? because if you are, you really shouldn't be sharpening at all. you'll catch and you'll die. plus, if you hit rails with sharp skis it will only quicken the edge cracking/breaking process. de-tuning before you hit rails at all actually prolongs the life of your edges by a bit

i'd only go 1, you don't need a super intense angle for all mtn skis and you're gonna want to slide a bit in bumps and stuff

why do you only rock 1 for slalom? i couldn't imagine sl without a 3 degree edge because i rarely slide my turns

Agreed. Slalom skis should have at lease a 3 degree bevel IMO.

I tune all my skis to a 1 degree base bevel and 3 degree side bevel. Most skis perform their best tuned to these bevels IMO.You can just detune them a little with a gummi stone if you are getting hooked up on rails.

this is what i would do take the file and rake it down teh edges at 45 and then smoth with dimond stone!

and trust me u can even keep an edge and do any thing with this detuner tip, not lying!

nah gs skis are best with a 3 edge bevel and .5 base bevel

but ya i did detune/gummi stone my twins a bit, but i was hoping to sharpen them because not being able to carve nice turns on hardpack takes a lot of fun out of skiing my twins

i dont consistently sharpen my base edge. i do it once really well when i get a new pair of skis and then i just do the side edge

and gs and slalom you want at least a 3, 1 would give no hold in sl and you need to stay on edge to snap your turn around quick enough

A 0.5 degree base bevel would be a minimum for a GS ski IMO. They would hook up too fast with anything less. A 0.5 degree base bevel on Slalom skis is pretty common though. You kinda splitting hairs either way though.

I only said MOST skis performed best with a 1 degree base bevel and 3 degree side bevel remember.

If you sharpen you base edge, you will file right into your base material. If you use something like a higher grit diamond stone, however, you should be okay as it will just smooth and polish your edges.
