So after reading this article I pretty much lost it.....last year a had my brand new Salomon Suspects and I was just going in for lunch after a great day of skiing. I put my skis on the rack thinking no one is that much of a dick to take skis. Well, I was wrong I came back out walked up and down all the racks....nothing. The panic and the emptiness I felt in that moment was awful. I just want to tell anyone out there that does this sort of thing and takes gear that people pay a lot of money for, well I'll just be straight up and say CUT THE SHIT.

we need a "Find my skis" app like apple so we can go break knee caps.... but I feel u man. I don't trust anyone and bring my skis everywhere

My friends and I usually trade one ski. No one wants a pair of unmatched skis.

If you're just by yourself you can put your skis on opposite side of the ski rack.

I just bring my gear inside. Don't think you can get away with it at larger mountains, but I haven't been yelled at yet.

What I do is that I take of my skis in different places away from each other. No one wants to steal a single ski

These things look pretty cool, maybe a more expensive option but just stick it between the toe and heel piece if you have bindings without a track.

It really sucks going in for lunch and being worried that someone might take your skis when their 800$. I would try to lock up your skis, I know it's a pain in the ass but it might save you 800$. I feel u op

Yeah, its hard to loose faith in people but it has to be done. File a report; with a report in hand, police can get ahold of you if they find them. Tracking your serial number is a good idea too. Ski keys racks are everywhere and locks are about 15$.

I know the feeling bro, had a expensive bike stolen when I went to the bank to file some papers. Locked it and everything, but one motorist happened to have bolt cutters in his truck and got it in seconds. It was even more painful to take the bus home. The only consolation was the bike was old and beaten; shock was blown fork was wobbling and it had shitty breaks, but still.

ive always thought that a ski company could press the electronics on this into a tip or tail of a ski. Or a binding manufacture could incorporate them somewhere into a binding.

Honestly all you can do is either separate them and/or lock them. Obviously locks are super easy to cut (most are, at least) but if it's between taking a pair of skis that are unlocked and taking a pit that are locked, you're not gonna bother trying to cut the lock

While we're on the stolen items topic, last weekend a friend of mine dropped his glove near the top of the lift. We went down to retrieve it and it wasn't there anymore, went back up the lift to retrace our steps and it still wasn't there. Who steals a single glove... what a fucking dick move

They probably took it to lost-n-found.

We asked the one at the bottom but not at the top. Maybe they turned it in up there? Kind of a weird spot out of all the places that you could give it to

There's a special place in hell for people who steal skis. Everyone is at the mountain to enjoy themselves and their love of the sport, and to take that away from someone is a really shitty thing to do. The money spent on the skis, although significant, isn't even the biggest thing lost, it's that the faith and trust you have in strangers and the piece of mind to be able to leave something as simple as a pair of skis alone for a few minutes. It's a damn shame how awful people can really be.
