So I was kinda bored today and was wondering if you could waterski a wave, assuming it was bigger than 4ft and you got towed in by a jet ski?
 
I have thought about this before, and I am pretty sure it would be possible, but you would need huge reverse camber and sidecut skis, and the actual tow in would require a lot of fine tuning and practice.
 
if you had the right water skis and speed to catch the wave im sure it would be possible

but i doubt it would compare to real surfing
 
you'd definitely need to be towed by a jet-ski and not just towed in, if you let go of the rope you'd be done
 
Been done.
Woodie Bouma did it in Aus. He cut an old surfboard in two and shaped two super floaty skis, mounted snowboard bindings on them, and towed in and caught some waves (he let go and rode them, staying on the wave.)
 
i've dreamt about this for years. i didnt know it had already been done though. props to the guy who did it.
 
This sounds exactly what surfers said about skiing. Surfers wanted to surf in winter, so they tried to take over our sport and we hate them. If we were to ski on waves, they would hate us for trying to take over their sport??? Just a thought. It would be sick, but i think water-skiers aren't extreme enough to do it and are probably to pussy (quite a generalization).
 
neither do i, but our sport in general does, like patrolers, slalom kids, old carving dudes and asshole park skiers.

i love surfing, its so much fun, but still id really like to try this. this summer if im not skiing and live in some coastal region (which i normally do), ill have to get a buddy to drive a boat and try it with jib waterskis. so thats a semi-promise at putting an edit out.

I think you could ride a wave on jump skis... a 170 lb guy like me can stand up behind a boat at around 5 mph on them. But you're right, water skiers are total pussies. Who can't ski into a ramp at 70mph?

+++++ K that was too sick, i really hope they get Eric Pollard out there doin it i think he would have some of the most innovative stuff. also some surfers that can read waves really well would be sick to watchtoo sick
 
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!! that made my day. If they could figure out a way to ride with out a tow in i would drop my life and move to Hawaii

That was sick. Think of all the possibilities. Next they'll start putting metal on top of jetties so you can hop of the wave and jib. So stoked to see that. =D. Revert corked three.
 
a seriously good water skier.

i actually met him at the national waterski tournament some years ago, he was doing the commentary for espn or oln or something. he saw me running off the stage in a speedo right at him and the cameras and laughed so hard his mohawk shook.

yeah, that's a claim, but it was cool as hell.
