I'm surprised nobody's made the thread yet with it being middle October already, the stoke was too high and I had to make the sundown thread for like my millionth time

Only jam I know of:

Simsbury Celebrates - November 29th - Simsbury, CT

Who'll I be seeing erry day there this winter? Any new faces?

Me and my homies come up all the time for the night session. We have been hitting a lot more park the last 2 years so you should see us. Ill post in here when we make plans to drive up. I'm about 40 min from the mountain.

brendan is starting the paint process on existing features today. Happy Days ahead.

Satan's Stairway Snowmaking is installed and only waiting for a test. some of our other snowmaking upgrades are just awaiting some simple valves which arrived yesterday. we've got 6 more lights to put up on SS and the lodge has a fresh coat of paint....

Bring on the snowmaking season.

as far as new features goes, we still have some un used extra lift towers that we'll do something with.

no corrugated tube this winter. i needed our stock to install snowmaking pipe this winter. you'll see why when you come to the hill.

Ski Swap is first weekend of November.

Getting to look at Satan's Stairway 3 days a week get's me really pumped to ski it. So steep, gonna be some much fun.

Rail maintenance keeps getting a back seat to snowmaking (which is honestly more important anyways), but it'll get done and hopefully a couple new features will come together before the season gets going.

I got an epic pass and will be spending a majority of my winter break in Colorado and Tahoe. I probably will only be making it up to Sundown 2-3 times this season.

even though living and skiing CT. I've never been to Sundown if i wanted to ski anything id either just go to mohawk or just head up to VT.

how is Sundown anyways ?

Can't wait. Any new rails this year?

We have metal and ideas, just need time to get it done (been busy with the new snowmaking system...which is more important and where the metal came from).

Awesome. So many new features from last year too. Should be a good season

we moved some guns around yesterday to hit some different spots.

A lot of work goes into snow making at marginal temps with limited water. thank a snow maker, at any mountain you visit this fall.

open saturday 8am

check social media for more current updates

deal is, we need two more nights of snowmaking to open with trails that are worth opening.

as far as features go, we'll add as many as we're able saturday morning after the snow guns are off and the trail is plowed out....

on a serious note, no hiking.

there's equipment everywhere and the mountain is not open. the snow cat guys are gonna be pushing out, the snow making crew is shuffling equipment AND from a liability standpoint, we are not set up to deal with trespassers... ugh....

thanks

Honestly dude sundown blows. Anything south of Vermont kind of sucks to be honest. If you have nothing else, then sure go, but I would just drive the 2 hours up to snow at least.

kinda worried that satan's stairway is going to empty into the middle of stinger where they normally throw some rails.

Current plan is the trail will pinch off to skiers left continuing moguls to the bottom. We may lose 1 or 2 features, but what we've been green lighted to gain will make up for it.

any idea for an opening day

yes. we will have one.

haha

ugh..,.

so this weather pattern is actually typical.... the hard part is how close we came to adding an entire month to our ski season, only to have it beaten out of us by rain and warmer than marginal snow making temps...

on the plus side, we;re not far off from being ready. piles of snow last, and we're one good, REPEAT GOOD, night away from opening.

Canyon Run, Nor Easter, Temptor, Stinger, Exhibition, and little Joe are the opening trail plans. Park wise, its foolish to plan anything until we see what we have for base and play snow. obviously, and especially with a new trail, we will do our best to impress.

on a up tick note, i learned stick welding finally, so rail maintenance no longer requires shop space. yay.... that means, with all of this NOT being open, a new feature can be made soon

to my friend who says Sundown blows.... well no fucking shit it's not mount snow or any other Northern New England mountain.

For those of you stuck skiing sundown the entire winter, i welcome you to my life.

Hopefully though, you can enjoy the hill a few times a week and get up north a couple times a month to actual mountains. that obviously is the end game of getting better at the sport...

I promise, there isn't a lot of dicking around and wasting time... unless it snows a foot, then go screw yourself, i'm skiing powder for a few hours, as i don't get up north, ever.

is a possible opening day this weekend? temps are going to be cold tonight.

not a chance. nothing but rain on saturday and Monday doesnt look good. next weeks forecast doesnt encourage taking a risk of damaging the snow just to open for sunday... just offering a glimpse into the business of everything, we have to protect ourselves and ensure we can offer a extremely great product for Christmas Vacation. currently, we are in a position to do so. that said, if tonights snowmaking goes great, we get snow as opposed to rain on Saturday, then maybe something will get pulled out of our asses. Dont count on it though. Temps are gonna hit lower 20's at best.... which is fine, but not awesome.

its a super lame thing to be so close to opening early, but it just isnt in the cards at this point.

yoooo i'm back from da b&

plz open this weekend because that's when my winter break starts, thx!

: ^ )

Gonna try...the last 36 hours saw a ton of getting made, the next 36 hours....well it's lame. Unfortunately it looks like it's going to be a game time decision. We'll see.

On an upside, Jarrod and I figured out a system for rail maintenance that is super fast, we managed to fix 6 broken rails in 3 hours the other day, pretty sweet (that would normally take a couple days). The 30ft+ rails need some work, but other than that we're good to go.

Word!! I mean isn't it at least better that it's 35 degrees and raining instead of like 45 degrees and raining? Live cam lookin MINT btw

Super stoked to ski at deez again, def gonna try and go more than last year as long as icefishing doesn't get in the way again lol

Woah I must of missed this comment, what do you mean by this!?

Satan's Stairway will continue all the way to the bottom, lower exhibition was widened out at the bottom, so there's no problem there, but at mid station (where stinger widened out) the trail got slightly more narrow because of a snowmaking line, meaning in order to continue the trail to the bottom that area gets narrower on the "stinger" side. Basically, we used to go 2 features wide to the left of the lift, now we may only get 1 feature wide. It's not really set in stone, so we'll see. But, the second half of that comment is the bigger thing. We can't say what it is, cause we don't want it to not happen and get heat for it, but we've been given the green light for something really awesome which we're really excited for.

Wasn't really our call. But, in our minds, to lose two features to gain a trail and get the ok for some cool stuff...it was a pretty fair trade to us.

Not to be a dick but I i have a gut feeling that this "trade" won't be worth it at all in the end, but i guess we'll have to see.

It should work out were total average feature count will be the same as always, I really don't see it as a big deal honestly.

please put a lift tower and the cannon

We won't know till we build it man. We can't come up with any kind of plan until we get a good look at everything plowed out (which won't happen until Thursday or Friday). We don't even know if we have a cat yet, so it might be stuff going in by hand (which means nothing heavy, like lift towers).
