Ski Shop set my DINs at 4

So I got my new Manguses mounted the other day (Dead center) at a ski shop I visit regularly.

I like to support this shop over their competitors in town because they carry armadas, Line, K2, Oakley, etc. and other new school skiing brands. I’ll usually go in a couple times a year and buy small things, chat with the guys about carrying more core brands like ON3P and Moment, and flex the new skis.

So you can imagine my horror when they placed my newly mounted Magnus beauties in my hands and I realized the DINs were set at 4! I usually ride them around 12 so my skis don’t pop off doing swerves, presses, and butter maneuvers like the bunchboys.

I politely asked the ski techs if they could turn the dins up to around 12 but they refused due to liability reasons and because of the height, weight and skier type I listed (obviously 3). I told them my skis are going to pop off every time I land backseat on a cork 7 or a little forward on a rod 5. But they didn’t seem to understand. I guess it turns out they weren’t the core shop I imagined but instead just another institution reliant on the business of complete Jerry’s.

this reads like some sample text you have to write an essay on for the SAT

Shops can get into serious trouble if they set a customer's dins any higher than what is listed on their chart. I don't think it has anything to do with whether they are a "core shop" or not

More importantly, in the time it took you to write this post, you probably could have changed the dins yourself

I get that. But It’s almost like they did it to spite me and label me as just an ordinary skier instead of someone who throws down

This is more about your butt hurt than understanding they legally aren’t allowed to do it any differently. Turn them up yourself

Coming from a rental shop and instructing background I can tell you with utter confidence that you can't take any skier's word for gospel. They can all talk the talk, but rarely walk the walk. So they're not gonna crank your dins up to 11 just because you run your mouth in the shop.

I feel you. I know what you need to do. Show up to the shop 2 hours before opening and build a kicker near their front door. As soon as the ski tech shows up for work, grab the bungee. Come in at at least 40mph and I want you to hit the biggest shifty this world has ever seen. Assuming that you’re skiing with the door to the left of you, your tips should bonk the window and leave magnus-shaped fractures. Then you gotta stomp the landing on flat, make sure your beanie falls off on the ride out, and swerve swerve swerve. Wave the arms. By this point mom should be in the parking lot ready to pick you up. Leave the bungee behind so these shop bitches can learn some urban. Then ride up to the mountain and go send the fattest lazy boy 1 the world has ever seen.

What I’ve gathered from this thread is your are probably small and have a boot that is wayyyy too big for you if your specs bring you to a 4. Riding at 12 doesn’t make you cool. And if all you are doing is swerving and landing backseat it’s a good thing your dins are low.

Can't believe you guys are falling for this flame.

Everyone who responded negatively to this thread owes a 3 sentence explanation of how they fell for OP's genuine effort to make them laugh through obvious trolling

Edit* I hope this is satire

I used to get this all the time. Worked as a ski tech for 2 years. If they set it at 12 and you don’t pop out and break your legs techs are liable. Just dial them yourself. I get you though

You are an ordinary skier. Just because you "throw down" doesn't make you too special for their rules.

Lose the stigmatism m8.

Have you seen the line TC episode where they ski right info the van after hitting a rail? Or the candide summer edit where he launches into the back of an suv? Im thinking something like that. If your mom has one of those honda minivans she can open the sliding door and you can go right on in, no need to even click out from your skis. Especially because at this point the dins will be at 18.

Every ordinary skier complains about shops setting their dins too low, people who throw down adjust their own

holy shit my sides hahahahahaha

Kind of a legal thing. If you screw your knee up, they don’t want to be blamed for setting your dins at 12. If I were you I would just buy a screwdriver watch a video on how to change dins.

My mom is friends with your mom, remember!

I “know” them both hard to say if I had to chose between the two which side is come down on, I’d probably just have to toss for it.

They both said they’re sons are gapers or at least I think that’s what they said, as their mouths were full.

If someone came into a shop asking to swerve like the Bunch, I would assume they don't know how to ski as well. They probably saved your knees.

Now the cute cashier won’t ask for your number bc you’re DINs aren’t high enough to look like a good skier.

in all seriousness just fix it yourself. It takes 2 minutes max. Let your skiing do the talking, not your gear and how you have it set up. If the opinion of the shop guys matters that much to you then I can’t help you.

I'm so over fucking ski shops...

through the years eveytime I go in a shop with a mount request or looking for parts (binding screws) they look at me like I just asked if they could turn water into wine!

like seriously go in the back and dig out the damn screws!! I ended up leaving the bindings there with the to see if they could find them. haven't hear back. I know I could just order them from "bindingfreedom.com" but I wanted to give these guys another chance. but it's looking like this may be the last time I go in there.

I went there a few years ago to get ski mounted, and they wanted $60. then called me back a week later saying they couldn't mount my skis because the brakes weren't safe. (bent pivot brakes).

Is it really that hard to put a JIG on a ski and drill some damn holes? growing up I had a hook up at the shop, walk in say hey go back with the tech and he'd get the job done in 10-15 min. no problem.

I've long since gone the way of just printing the template and mounting myself, fuck ski techs. I get they have to follow charts and all that. but come on. Most these guys are the biggest chumps i've ever met. I get it, they thought "hey I'll get a job at a ski shop because I like skiing". Next thing you know they are dealing with renting out 1000's of skis fitting millions of stank ass feet in shitty rental boots. mounting countless shitty setups for little johnys first skis et.

long story short. think twice before going to your local shop, usually just easier to get your supples on the internet and do it yourself. AND NEVER BECOME A SKI TECH. they are bitchmade.

Spot on

when you think like this you are a loser and they can clearly tell

Maybe you look short and skinny to them.

Funnies DIN moment was the rental shop setting DIN at 4-5 for my buddy who is 6'6 and 270lbs, we checked his DIN settings when he managed a wopping 1 turn before skis went off, this was at the top of the glacier on engelberg at 3500 meters... it was hilarious too watch.

If your a dope enough skier to be rocking your din at 12, your a dope enough skier to be able to adjust your din by yourself. Also, you can always request that they set the din to a certain release value. Just sign the paper that says it’s on you.

ok. i’m sorry. not trying to be an asshole, but get a fucking grip, no ski shop is out to get you and insult you by setting your DIN low. fucking change it yourself. just please don’t blame it on the shop, that’s so annoying
