Ski shop mounted one of my skis backwards... advice?

So I just bought a pair of Bluehouse MR skis with the bindings included, shipped in beautiful condition and I was super stoked. Side information: I instruct at a small place near home.

I was home for thanksgiving, so I dropped the skis off at a nearby. Specified exactly where I wanted them mounted, and everything went pleasantly enough. I went back to school the next day so my mom was kind enough to drop by and pick up the skis for me.

So I just got home from finals, super stoked to go skiing the past week all I've been doing is counting down the days. Grab my skis to go wax them myself and I realize something is off. Double check to be sure and yep, the freaking shop mounted one of the skis backwards.

http://http://imgur.com/brze8 Close up of the 'front' notice how the number is upside down, HOW DID THEY NOT NOTICE THAT?!?

http://http://imgur.com/YcsMa Full shot of the skis, the way they mounted them

http://http://imgur.com/brze8,YcsMa,MExPa#2 The way the skis are supposed to line up, pretty sure I can't do that with my feet.

So I'm planning on going in to the shop tommorow and raising hell. The really bad part is I'm supposed to start working on monday and I have no skis, which means I'll be on rentals.

Well I didn't make this thread to bitch, I actually came for advice. What demands should I make tomorrow? Should I immediately ask to speak to a manager? Should I demand that they replace the skis because of the loss in value that remounting causes?

They definitely should replace the ski. It's not like they're symmetrical and it's an easy to make mistake. But be polite. You're not going to get anywhere by being an asshole. That said, be firm that you'd like the skis replaced.

Wow I have seen a lot of mismounts but mounting a ski backwards on a non symmetrical ski is pretty ridiculous. They should replace the skis either order you a new pair or give you a pair in the shop. Just be respectful and calm, good things will happen.

I have had problems with my shop not mounting them how i asked but never a backwards ski. Id assume that they will take the blame because it is pretty obviously their bad.

That is really fucking funny/shitty. You're definitely entitled to new skis IMO, I'd ask for that with no hesitation.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, and yeah I'm going to ask for new skis. If they give me a hard time then I'll point out that the holes they drilled were in the front of the ski, an area not designed to be drilled so the damage to the ski will be amplified there, and if I went to ski on them and something happened because they drilled/filled in an area not designed for it they would be fully accountable and I would seek compensation for any injuries. I guess at that point I'll also mention that my mother is an attorney.

For others trying to avoid the shop it was Ski Haus in Brewster NY

embeds for lazy people like myself,

only reason i see why they did this is because they thought the little guy is supposed to be right sight up.

Dont go in all "my moms an attorney so give me new skis" use your mom as a last ditch chance. Im sure they will refund you the skis.

I don't know how this could possibly happen... I mean aside from all the obvious signs that they were backwards even the graphics match up.. I would go in and get compensation for the skis and mount then go to another shop right away. Either that tech was drunk, extremely stupid, or a 12 year old. Don't be a douche but be firm and if they try and weasel out of it I am sure your mother can pay them a visit.

Yea just like everyone else is saying don't be an asshole but don't be a pushover. Unless their completely unreasonable you'll get new skis or money to compensate for what they messed up.

this is about the best most logical advice here!...

that being said,... even if they can be remounted they are not New condition anymore...

they definatly fucked up i got my surfaces mounted there and told them exactly where i wanted and thats what they did. Plus those skis look retarded with the numbers upsdie down. The people that run that shop are way better than that and if you go talk to them with your mom theres no dobut they will hook you up with a pair from teh shop

doubtful this shop will carry Bluehouse.. so you get to luck out by having them replace your shitty skis with better ones of an equal dollar amount from a real brand.

talk to the manager first.

Holy fucking shit your tech is a retard. I would be so embarassed if I was that shop. Pathetic

Sorry the shop mounted your skis incorrectly, that does suck. Go in, be polite, and speak with a manager. Throwing a fit will get you nowhere, especially since they have no actual obligation to do anything (not that you don't deserve some compensation, just that they can refuse whatever they want).

In the future, always label where you want your ski to be mounted on the top sheet (with tape and a marker) and also label the tips & tails. If you want to make sure you get exactly what you want, you need to remove as many chances for confusion as possible as best you can.

i just got my walls mounted and the tech guy used the wrong jig and drilled 12 extra holes before he realized he fucked up. 12 HOLES! regardless, im getting a new pair walls. talk to them about it and be polite

I will probably never mount my own skis, I will take the chance that a shop will fuck something up before I ever try to do it myself.

I'm not sure why so many people are struggling with this...

Ever since I discovered how incredibly easy it is to mount skis yourself with a paper template, I'm never going back to a shop. Assuming you know how to correctly adjust the forward pressure, DIN, Toe height, etc., There is no reason to risk going to a shop.

I don't really want to rant on the subject, but when you pay $40 for a mount and the techs argue with you about why you shouldn't mount your park skis anywhere but recommended, or when a shop mounts your FKS crooked with the forward pressure WAAAY too loose, or now apparently some techs will mount your skis backward.

If you are knowledgable, you can do it. Practice on 2x4s, use threads like this

http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php/153971-Binding-Mount-Paper-Templates?s=0b36c6237fac3eec2d0b231a293c0f9d

and double/triple check the templates (cause the tyrolia one is still of by a couple mm, for example.)

Anywho, sorry, sucks about your skis. Definitely be nice.

Catch more flies with honey than vinegar type of thing. Best of luck to OP>

Are you blind, deaf or dumb? Must be all three because there are pictures showing how they are NOT symmetrical along with many posts stating that same fact.

Because it's extremely easy to screw up and it's hard to get the right drill pressure especially if you have never seen someone mount skis before or have someone showing you in person what to do. Plus there is no safety measure, if you fuck it up the mount. There's nothing you can do about it except buy new skis. If the shop fucks it up then they usually will replace the ski or compensate you for the damages done. There is also very little chance the shop will screw up. Obviously it happens, but it is not a common occurrence.

have you ever ridden a bluehouse ski? The MR is the most fun ski i have ever ridden, I'm pretty sure they are a "real brand"

my god, I would flip out. it wouldnt get me aywhere but I would be so pissed to see those beautiful skis ruined. I would deff. take them back and ask politley for them to replace them. They will absolutley try to get you to let them remount the skis. Say bullshit and tell them that it was THEIR mistake and you shouldn't have to pay the consequeces of the loss in value. You went as far as to mark down and tell them exactly where to mount the skis, I cant understand for the life of me why in the world they would install the bindings backwards.

You have a right to take them back, you should stay calm, but demand a replacement. You can be pissed and if they dont follow your demands, get pissed, get angry. I dont see why they wouldnt replace your skis since it was all their fault. Its just ridiculous, people around this time of year think they are so busy that it doesnt matter how they put the skis together, they think they can do a half asked job and get away with it. Really, like how long does it take to put bindings on properly? Id say 10 minutes? they probably sat there for half the time required and didnt eve notice that they were fucked up.
