Ski Shop Being Dishonest & Untruthful?

Hey guys,

Normally I wouldn't make a thread that may or may not mean absolutely nothing to you, but this subject of mine should be talked about amongst you guys and I would like to hear your guys' opinions on this.

About a year ago or so I purchased Armada THalls from a local ski shop (name will not be given) and brought in my last years skis/bindings to have the bindings mounted onto the new pair. I was super stoked for the season to begin and start skiing on them. By the end of the season they were worn out and ready to be put on NS to see if anyone would like to buy them off me.

Finally, I got a bite on them a few days ago and they were sold. I told the buyer that I would be able to unmount the skis myself and have them shipped to him the following day. Also, as mentioned in the thread I posted that they were only mounted once. So today I got to unmounting them and got both toe and heel pieces off both skis. As I was cleaning the skis, I saw on one of the skis' heel piece, that the drill holes of where the bindings had just been, there were MORE drill holes about a 1/2 cm above the ones recently applied. These holes were filled and someone clearly knew of what had happened.

Now I'm in this shit situation because the store I bought them from, I know the people extremely well. They are almost family to me. I find it hard to believe that they would take a brand new ski, fuck up on the drilling, fill the holes, drill the correct holes, mount the binding, and act like nothing had happened. It's really heartbreaking to find this out. It may not seem like a big deal, but the drill holes devalue the ski and skis can only go threw so many drills.

I notified the buyer about the situation and have yet to hear back from him. Him and I both were under the intention that they had been mounted once throughout both skis. Here are some pictures to let you know whats going on.

Thoughts? :/

Yeah it sucks that they did not tell you, but it happens. By the look of it they mounted the heels too far forward which means either they were not using a jig, they did not use your boots or they just dont know what they are doing.

It does happen iv seen it a few times, most good shops would be honest with you and give you the mount for free, but they dont have to tell you. So long as they filled the holes straightaway its not going to effect the ski. It may cut down slightly where you could remount bindings in the futre but its not going to effect the ski in any way. Also your only on one mount, those other holes were never skied on so there will be no damage. The only thing that would be a problem is if the buyer wanted to move the heels .5cm in, but that is not recommended any way, so really its not a problem at all. If he wanted them 1 cm in he just uses the other holes.

Overall yeah it sucks, but its done now, and luckily they filled the holes well, so there will be no effect on the ski.

That sucks, to be honest I'd be a bit sketched out about having the holes that close to the filled ones.

And yeah it's entirely possible that the ski shop fucked up the mount, decided they could move the binding and you would never know otherwise... and I guess they almost got away with it in that if you'd never removed the binding (most people never do) you would never have known anyway.

If you have a receipt from when you got it mounted it might be worth hitting up the shop over it, although you could be burning a few bridges, and now that you've skied them for a year I dunno what they would do about it... maybe refund you the mount at best? (Although if you bought the ski and binding from them you possibly didn't pay for the mount anyway)

This may be a case where it's worth just sucking it up, giving the guy you sold them to a discount if he still wants the skis, and moving on. If your shop is legit they ought to hook you up on whatever you replace them with.

this is why i always ask to watch when i get my bindings mounted at a shop ....

on my first twintip they also fucked up, resulting in one of my biggest crashes when my heelpiece suddenly ripped out ....

anyways, if the skis have held up until now the holes seem to be ok (altough they seem a bit close to the old ones)

is your buyer going to mount the same model bindings in the same holes ? or is he going for a completely new mount ?

yeah man it sucks, but like everyone said it happens. Performance wise it's not going to make that big a deal, esp if they filled right after drilling. I've seen the same thing before, except the shop forgot to fill the holes, resulting in the core of the ski rotting out. It sucks for resale, but just be honest with your buyer and that's the best you can do

Mistakes happen, but they should have told you and maybe refunded the mount cost (or equivalent).

I've mounted the last 4 pairs of my skis so if there's a fuck up, its on me not anybody else.

Ask for the mount cost refund or a free mount on your next pair.

The good thing is nothingh happened to your skis, but it's shitty they never told you.
