Just out of pure curiosity, I've heard of people lashing skis together in the backcountry for the use of rescue sleds, and I was wondering how exactly is that done? And how are the brakes kept up on the ski, if at all? Thanks.
Dang... I wish I wasn't on mobile right now, but I've seen a few gear review videos of K2's avy shovels and backside accessories and they have a full sled all built up. Glad I had found it because before I had no fucking clue how one was supposed to be made. Maybe someone else can find and embed?
I'm pretty sure I saw a picture of the rescue sled made up in next years K2 catalogue. I've got the catalogue on my laptop, I'll attach a picture an page reference when I'm off mobile.
Definitely. The only thing that was really K2 specialized in that video was the skis with pre-drilled tip/tail holes. Here's a newer and way easier to follow video, with the special K2 shovel that has the bolts stashed inside of it.
That video flows way nicer and one thing to note is how he ties the two poles together by interlocking their straps, and tying a saftey rope to one rescuer so that the injured skier on the sled doesnt go shooting downhill.
There's also another company that makes a rescue sled and it's essentially a small blanket that just unrolls and your skis bolt on to it I think. But using the avy shovel, cord, skis, and poles looks way easier and your already carrying those things, so why carry something else?
