Ski recommendations

My friend is looking to get into skiing and wants an all mtn ski that can do anything. He wants to eventually ski off piste but still wants to go to the park on occasion. I was thinking the kartel 108/106 or the armada arv 106 would these be good choices for a beginner that will be skiing every weekend? Thanks

Will be skiing Colorado hopefully off piste for a week or more

you dont need fatter skis to ski off piste well. the Kartel 98s and ARV 95s will be fine. Rocker is the most important thing when skiing off piste so as long as he doesn't get a full camber park ski you should be good. I can easily go on and off piste with my BC Venors and they're 89 underfoot. Sure they don't ski as well as some fatter skis but they still work fine for the rare occasions when needed and it sounds like you'll only be truely off piste for one or two weeks out of your season.

your friend is very ambitious... the skis you mentioned are likely to hold back his progression or possibly injure him

Alright thanks for the warning any suggestions?

Also would kartel 98 or arv 96 be more suitable?

Would be much easier for someone to learn on who is new to skiing. Wider is not impossible, but for a week or two out west a 96 would still work for a majority of skiing and then still be a good width for the midwest.

Would the tst work aswell I noticed it's only 101 underfoot in a 174. would it be to chargy for a noob? Only reason I'm asking is I found a pair for 300

I've been riding the last edition volkl bridge (production stopped a few seasons ago) so they are fairly cheap now, they bust through absolutely anything, handle great in the soft and carve like dog. only thing is they are relatively stiff. which is good for nz conditions, but not too sure about the conditions in Colorado (i believe they are pretty legendary). but if groomers and off piste with a 40-60 split is what your planning. they would be worth considering.

they are 95 at the waist

Kartel 98s will do perfectly fine. Unless he would rather choose the one you said and broke his bones, that would be fine too.

Thanks for the reply but you're suggesting that since the skis I listed are 5-10mm wider he will break his legs?
