Ski recommendation for extremely tall skier

I'm an upper intermediate/advanced level skier (by no means an expert however) and skiing currently on Rossignol Experience 84 @ 186cm.

I'm 6'9"/205cm tall and weigh 210 lbs/95kg. "They" say you should get a ski the same as your height but there's just not a whole lot out there over 193cm. I saw the Faction Candide 3.0 @ 204cm and thought maybe that would be a good choice. I might do a season in Japan next year so would be looking for something on powder and I like to get into the easy trees although don't do full on back country. I also had my eye on the Armada JJ 2.0 Zero 195cm. I love powder and I'm okay to have a 2 ski quiver to handle both powder and hard pack days.

Looking for some advice from other tall skiers out there. (or from those who know tall skiers)

Personally, I think skis are more weight based than height based. The heavier you are, the more ski you will need to grip the hard pack or float you in powder. You're not that heavy for 6'9, so you could probably do it on a 195. It's really all about technique. You ski backseat, you'll have a hard time handling smaller skis because your height acts as a greater lever than a shorter person. I'm 6'5 180 and ski on 178s but that's largely because I'm poor and they were a gift.

your looking at the right stuff. fraction were the first guys that sprung to mind. some of the old volkls were 2m+ but they were fully rockered.

2 things to keep in mind though. most 190+ skis can be pretty stiff and targeted towards a more aggressive skier looking to charge. so keep your ability level in mind otherwise you could be in for a rough time. second thing is you mentioned trees. a 2m stick can be quite a pain to turn in tight spaces not sure where abouts in JPN your going but i found some pretty tight trees when i went.

it is however personal preference i would look at any ski around 190 that suits your skiing type/style and consider moving the mount point back a bit. i would say try and demo some but the majority of the time they only have 170s available worth a shot though. could try custom a pair but thats gonna set you back. i'm 194 for ref

Im in the same boat as you man, im 6'8 and got the faction candide 3.0s like you were saying. But like the other guy said i think skis are more weight based because even though the candides are 204 i really wish they were a whole lot stiffer. The candides are really soft in the 204. So unless you mostly ski groomers/ park i would look elsewhere

Ive got a cheap big 194 for sale in my last thread. Its a nice stiff one so if youre into that than this one will handle you at 210 lbs.

Thanks for the really useful feedback!

Sounds like I should look for something that's a combination of higher stiffness while still being on the lengthy side, although length is not the ultimate decider since the Candide 3.0 is not stiff enough for cadebucket. Incidentally cadebucket how much do you weigh?

I'm still interested in the JJ 2.0 Zeros for a powder ski, but everyone seems to say they are some of the softest skis out there. I wonder if my height/weight would overpower them even at 195cm length?

i wouldnt go for JJs. super popular ski but ive skied JJs that were inches over my head and they still felt like snowblades. as others have said i think what you should do is get something in the 190s that has some stiffness and long effective edge to give you enough ski to work with

I weight just under 200 pounds. The candide 3.0 is great for groomers, but when going fast in crud and chop they get a little sketch

Some ideas:

Faction Prodigy 4.0 - 193

On3p c&d or kartel 116 - 191

K2 catamaran - 191

I don't know if they've improved the JJ from its ski blade days but even at a long length it skied short and squirrely so probably avoid it
