Ski poles...why?

why do so many people still use them? i mean, i always pick mine up on the way out, out of sheer habit but i do sometimes leave them at the top of a pipe or kicker or something... they just get in the way and im a bit scared of sticking myself! anyone else?

pole planting, executing a good turn, you can spin faster with them, balance in air and on rails, skate skiing, and for general pole fun, clacking(props)

i dont really find a use for poles either unless im skating around. They were always too long and i always bent them. Then i decided to chop 10 inches off them, now theyre real good and dont get in the way

that made me laugh..

i look at it like this, i play baseball and whenever im throwing batting practice or something and i don't have my glove on and im throwing a baseball it feels wierd to me and i have to put my glove on..its the same thing with poles for me, also poles give you better balance and if your making turns better timing, but i don't think many park-rats really care about carving

well most people depend on them, others just have and others (you) really dont care for them

its all just preference but most peolple love them (more like 95% of the ns population)

poking people. mostly snowboarders, in the butt while they strap in at the top of the hill.

.....no, actually they are really good for balancing.

skiing without poles is awesome. it's so much fun and i think it makes skiing feel bettter. But sometimes i do feel like a gaper. But ya know, whatever. I like it... AND if any of you havent tried skiing no poles recently, then you have NO ROOM to talk because its soo much fun.

People who say no poles is fun probably just can´t ski...

I just hate it when I break one of my poles or even both on a crash. Skiing without them the rest of the day is impossible for me.

You dont need poles, they are good for bumps and traversing. Just becuse some kids on NS dont think its cool, dosent mean that you need to have poles.

Oh you must ski without poles then... haha nah, without poles it looks like you don't know what to do with your arms.

i like no poles.

its fun, but when you have to traverse or its slow... you realize they do have an actual purpose. Honestly though, they dont do much else for me. i dont need them for balance, neither do you. stop pretending.

no poles = the shit

end this thread its gay`

i disagree with every remark made.

i only break them when i get angry with a rail, so now i dont ski with them anymore.

With poles it seems to mask any flailing or lack of style, which seems a bit weird, but it's true. Only without poles does a persons arm position truly stand out, making it way more style, or way less style. No poles is cool.

If I could navigate lift lines and board the chair without them, I would. But I can't. I like grabbing without poles.

you gotta ski with poles...without them you look retarded like you arms dont know what to do. plus i think they add style myself.
