Ski Poles are in?

I have always enjoyed skiing with poles in or out of the park, I feel like they make my skiing look and feel better. Are people starting to move away from the no poles swerve era? Is everyone going to be skiing with poles in the park this season?

poles have always been a thing, they just make it easy for you to look like a kook if your arms are all over the place. dudes who rock long ass poles well are steeze as fuck.

I think the shorter poles look better then long ones in the park, even if they can make long poles look good.

Personally I love poles and have been using them for years now after a short no pole faze when I first got into park skiing. And I refuse to ski without them as it makes me feel off balance as fuck. But I wouldn’t say poles are in. You got guys like mainio and harald in forre putting a heavy influence on the no poles for the euro kids, and more so in North America we have this funky grunge vishnu cactus-hand culture putting its own emphasis on the no-pole. If anything I think we are going to see a stronger divide between styles of skiing and the use of poles. I haven’t been around in park skiing long enough and maybe this happened in 2017 with the intro of the swerve. But I think in a couple years if not the nearer future, you’ll be able to tell generally how people ski based on their use of poles or not.

I think you are correct OP. The "Swerve Era" of hands above the waist and Adidas track pants seems to be over.

The new wave is clothing that a bunch of fried mid-20 year olds made in their basement and long poles.

I always rocked poles cuz all my fav riders did but this szn I got a couple no poles clips and was like damn I always wanted to ride like Andy P and Oystein but I just don't got it like that. I look way cooler no poles so im gonna have to make the switch this year

i have never been able to decide on the poles vs no poles. i always bring them with me, but i often just stick them at the bottom of the lift, then i take a couple laps with poles later on.

i even dived into some pow without poles couple seasons ago, it's tough and feel weird, but opens for a lot of new ways of skiing.

as far as the pole trend goes, i have never seen the reason to care all too much. it's more about how they work with the skiing you do

Poles, always. They’re functional, and make you look more equipped/complete.

Anytime I see a crew with all no poles, I know I’m in for some comedy.

Honestly half the time I don’t even realize if a rider is using poles or not. Unless it’s someone who religiously does or does not use poles.

not sure if youve seen the WC big air in chur, but they all ditched poles almost lol....

i'd love to see more poles back tbh. just gives it a more skiing'ish vibe and less of a discipline vibe

With or without I ski pretty similarly, I keep my hands pretty much the same without them too, I just like them for skating around the hill and in lines.

I often prefer to not use them in the park because tow ropes and grabs.

I love to hear such good things about polish people!

never go skiing without your favourite Poles!

Would luv to hear what strategies others use to find replacement poles. I find I break a pole every month or so and I’ll usually just ask the lifties if they have any extras.

There a pain in the ass riding ropes

i remember one time some kid I was coaching wanted to go ski his freeride comp run without poles and I'm like no buddy. Absolutely not. This cannot happen.
