Ski painting?

I was thinking about painting my k2 presses i just wanted to to know what kind of paint to use. What kind of based paint, oil? Rubber? And how many layers of paint. As well as how much sanding needs to be done. Any other genral help or advice would be helpful! And K+ to anyone who helps me out.

I painted some old straight skis with rustoleum using 4 coats, drew stuff with sharpies then did a clear coat. Haven't gotten to really test the durability cause the bindings broke but it seems alright. I doubt they will last forever though.

I have never done it personally. But the thing I would watch out for with the sanding specifically is the fact that you wont sand strait to wood. Make sure not to sand through the top sheet or you will damage the fiberglass wrap that they put around the wood core for structure.

An ideal ski for doing this would be a pair of line afterbangs (since you could actually sand off the graphic and it would just be wood under).

Best of luck to you and I hope that at least helps with a small step in the process!

Just sand enough to buff the clear coat top sheet. I have use a marine grade paint epoxy that works great. Holds up extremely well.

i was lucky enough to have my dad work at a college so the autobody guys panted them and clear coated them. they did 1 coat of black then like 3-5 coats of clear coat. mine were delaming so i stripped the topsheet with a chisel so all of the ski was on the same layer

Oh yes they looked amazing. But now they look like poop. They chipped so bad revealing the previous color of the skis. I can post a pic here in a few if you'd like me to

Yeah that would be helpful

Just bought a pair of old volkls to do this with, thinking of putting a few layers of clear coating on to try and reduce chipping
