for our school we have to give an environmental speech and i chose the ski industries use of wood in their cores, im trying to lessen the use of wood and find an alternative source. Im not serious about this and i don't really care about this topic but its the best thing i got. +karma if you can help me find website that are trying to do this. thanks for the help
 
Think of toxin free epoxy/glue, maybe use the wood that has been grown sustainably (eg farmed or replaced after the cutting). Here is a simple brainstorm:

A fully environmentally friendly/ sustainable ski will be:

Graphic - designed by a indigenous artist hence supporting the indigenous communities

Wood (idea 1) - harvested/bought from a certified tree farm which ensures minimal/no damage to environment

Wood (idea 2) - harvested from recycled/salvaged wood, eg construction site offcuts etc.

Wood (idea 3) -

Epoxy - Ecopoxy toxin free epoxy, no VOC, no BPA, no Heavy Metals, water based (http://craftingagreenworld.com/2010/09/10/finally-an-eco-friendly-epoxyresin/)

Factory - an ISO 14001 EMS (environmental management system) certified, meaning that its constantly improving its environmental performance.

Factory - Carbon neutral offseting its ommisions by investing into the green power or green credits through tree farming/or tree sanctuaries.

That was just a short run down, if you need any more info let me know, haha got to put my recently finished Environmental Science Degree to some good use ahaha.

 
not intending to hate at all, but, the ski industry uses NO wood compared to other industries, and it would be difficult to replace it with somthing more cheap/enviormentaly frendily
 
ya, i see where ur comin from, i try to make my projects and stuff about skiing as much as i can, even if it may not be the best possible topic
 
maybe try tackling a comparison between the wood/foam/bamboo/sand-cores in skis ...
give them + and - on performance and on their environmental impact....
 
bluehouse uses bamboo cores as well, maybe a list of skis/ski companies that use alternative sources would be good in your report
