"Ski friendly" rails?

Ok, so everybody's screwing their stuff up doing rails, so why hasn't anybody desiged a 'ski friendly' rail? I know you can't prevent %100 of rail-related problems, but ot making them out of metal would be a good start. I don't know a lot about materials available, but there's got to be something better than metal, even if you had to coat it with teflon or something. Thoughts?

but taht would make it soft- metal works, skis break, deal with it

you could make rails out of high density plastics, but that would be more expensive. face it, metal rails are the best known combination of effectiveness and cost efficiency. not to mention easy to weld :)

'can you read what that says?'

'donna simma?'

'yes, that's right. now how would that appear in a phone book?'

'simma, donna?'

'that's right now Simma down na!'

Can someone make me some car tires out of metal? I'm sick of the rubber wearing down because of the damn road. If they were metal, that wouldn't happen!

Ok heres the deal....or the 'science' behind it...

for a ski to slide on something without digging in, the surface on which it's sliding has to be stronger than a skis edge, yeah PVC is allright but that still gets all chewed up, so your best bet is to hit rail and don't worry about beating shit up cause you'll never get better that way

i havent had any edge on my skis for the past 2 months. You dont even need an edge for park most of the time unless you're doing pipe. Grinding ptex and sidewall works fine.

Ok all I can say is this. People should learn to do rails properly on PVC first before going to metal. If you are doing rails right, your edges really shouldn't be touching too much. Now this little training technique works good on flat rails but it's kinda hard to keep your bases flat on kinks. So just try this little strategy, and your edges won't get nearly as messed up.

Hey, buddy. Just because I'm new on this site doesn't mean that I haven't been skiing for a while. I've been making rails (pvc and metal) for 3 years now. Show a little respect man.

wo' there. chill out, he was probably saying that cuz you make no sense. and it doesnt matter how long youve been skiing, its how good you are. on the topic of this thread... it would be awsome if someone found a way to make 'ski friendly' rails, but my guess is that we are going to be waiting a whil before that happens. so your best bet is to deal with metal and dull edges.

Duff Man: Duff Man... says a lot of things! Oh, yeah!

Yeah, I'm sorry that came out a little harsh. All I'm saying is just try to slide rails on the bottoms (bases) rather than the full edge. I learned to do this on pvc rails first so I wouldn't wreck my edges. You are going to get some edge but it's better than sliding on nothing but edge. It's a lot easier to p-tex than to re-edge.

Ummmm, a lot of pros grind the way you say is wrong so does that make them wrong? I dont think so, it all preferance man. I mean ski edges brake no mater how u grind a rail deal with it. So I have been grinding rails for over 4 years now and I think I'm pretty good there arent too many rails I cant do but since I grind improperly according to you i should just stop and figure it all over again? I dont think so, it doesnt matter man. People just have to deal with grinds gettin busted or just get pow air grinds like I just did they arent bad at all.

The Pow'air Grinds had a plastic plate that went all the way across the ski underneath the boot. They sucked.

They hav a plastic p-tex edges its only like 6inches under foot and no they dont suck if you kno how to ski. They are awesoem i recommend gettin a pair if u want rail skis.
