Ski Films and no female skiers segments.

This question just struck me, In most of the ski movies I've seen, which is not that many, how come there aren't any female segments?

Only one I can think of is Sarah Burke in the movie Red Tape.

Tatum Monod in Less

And the reason for this is is because they don't/wouldn't put up much a segment... in the ski industry at least, not the others ;)

Because their skiing is on a way lower level than any male professional

I understand the difference in skill levels.

My experience of movie premiers and seeing how many females are there watching it? Makes sense that if someone was to include like one or two simple segments they could get more females to buy/watch?

Back in the day Warren Miller movies used to have chicks in it ripping big mountain lines and whatnot. I remember watching Ingrid Backstrom (sp?) and other ladies going big and was so in awe of them. I havent seen any of his movies since his son took over though.

I haven't seen Less yet but ok.

Her segment was one of the shining lights in a pretty depressing movie. She slayed some burly lines. I was not very impressed with the rest of the film tbh.

ingrid backstrom always has nice segments in msps films.. and michelle parker.. they both rip big mountain

Kaya had a sick little part in Eye Trip!

Where she also nabbed this cover with Felix Rioux.

I really enjoyed Ingrid Backstrom's segment from The Way I See It, reminds me very much of skiing with my twin sister, just enjoying the mountains. But we don't rip it as good as they do!

Tiril Sjaastad had a few shots in Supervention. But, they weren't overly amazing unfortunately. But she goes huge! And is actually an amazing skier.

Man, I found this just perusing google images one day:

One of my all time favorite shots. I'm pretty sure Felix nabbed a load of bangers around that time with a bunch of Montreal crew.

As far as female edits go, I've been looking for one. I think the girl was named Liz, Lizzy, or Elizabeth or something like that, she was skiing in the summer up on the Whistler glacier; at Momentum or COC, and it was all set to a SonReal song. I think it was a 2010 or 2011 edit. Shit was tight from what I remember, and I'd really like to watch it again, I just haven't been able to find it though.

This? I believe she was the first girl to do a freeskiing dub (as in not straight flips).

Yeah dude, that's it! I was pretty sure her name was almost in line with a common name in my family. Apparently it isn't Elizabeth then... Warll is though.

A little more speed on some of those jumps and she would be crushing it. Where is she at nowadays?

Old snowboard movies from the late 90s early 200s had girls but not many now. Same kind of thing. Back then things weren't as serious as some of the movies today. Was cool to see some of the lesser knows with a small part even just a trick or two as well. These days it's pretty much full part full part full part of bangers all filmed really sweet and less room for the random shenanigans.

I've always loved Kaya's part in Eye Trip - super inspiring, and such an achievement to be a part of something as amazing as that movie.

pretty sure there's a couple all-girl movies coming out this year, one's called 'pretty faces'

MSP has girls in every movie as far as i know and they fucking shred (Ingrid, Michelle, Wendy)

also jess kimura and laura hadar absolutely slayed in capita's 'defenders of awesome'

In that case you should probably be watching recent ski films instead of posting this thread.

Tatum killlled it in Less. I was off the wall for the entirety of her segment.

Kaya has had some segments in Eye Trip and what not

and Michelle Parker worked her ass off to get an all girls movie produced.

Also, Maude puts out rad edits also a few times a season that are worth checking out.

She competed in at least one Dew Tour and maybe X Games the next season but she disappeared after that. Possibly due to injury?

I'm not a girl skier, but I would bet it's intimidating to hit features that are set up for men to hit. Plus, I bet that the tremendous opportunity to gain fame from being an aspiring female skier is likely offset by the negative feedback from men and from other women who live a more traditional gender-roled lifestyle.

Yeah the girls in matchstick movies shred. Girls park skiers just arent on the same level though.

ANGEL COLLINSON IN ALMOST ABLAZE how has noone said this. She rips harder than any girl I've seen.

I think it's funny that you are referring to Ingrid Backstrom as a 'back in the day' skier - especially when referring to Warren Miller movies. She's new age dude. Wasn't even on the scene till 2004. Now Wendy Fisher, Kim Reichhelm - those are some 'back in the day' skiers of note.

Not Michelle Parker - Lindsey Dyer Pretty Faces. http://unicornpicnic.com/

A french production called PVS is dropping some crazy segments from kelly sildaru every year.

but i think kelly is not really liked by theskiinggirlconspiracy. Why?

I think it's harder for girls to take the impact of some of the flat landings in the urban environment.
http://freeskier.com/stories/mans-course-womens-slopestyle-skiing-sustainable/2

" “Across sports, not just freeskiing, female athletes have a higher incidence of ACL rupture than males,” says Laura Tietjen, a physical therapist for the United States Ski & Snowboard Association. According to Tietjen, female athletes need greater hip strength to avoid the inward collapse of their knees because of something called Q Angle. This angle that extends from the widest part of the hip to the middle of the kneecap is much larger in females. The alignment of women’s knees may predispose them to ACL injuries, but other factors play in, including women’s increased hamstring flexibility and foot pronation and variations in the nerves and muscles that control the position of the knee. In addition, the female hormone estrogen may relax or allow stretching of the ACL"

Geh in someways yes. The Q-angle isntt that relevant for ACL injuries in skiing. For being the physical therapist for the US team, that person doesn't really explain the issues accurately for skiing.

Shades of Winter – Pure

haven't seen it yet but their last movie was really good, especially the Alaska segment, so I'm having high hopes for this one too. great to see some of the Euro/FWT competitors on film.

and I just have to say Tatum Monod in Less, so good. WHY ON EARTH did they not include her entire part in the actual movie? bonus segment.. meh. when you find a girl who actually rips, why put most of her part in a bonus segment? like that old bonus footage of Michelle Parker in Claim. sorry, but stuff like that annoys me.

Angel's OPENING SEGMENT was fully awesome. Anyone who can open a TGR flick deserves mad respect.
