Ski Edits Ruin Ski Movie Season

I've been a member here for over 8 years now and every year there are more and more edits on the site and posted to youtube and vimeo. Because so much footage is shared now on this site, even from pros that we all look forward to seeing in the latest L1 or PBP, its hard to want to buy these films now. We see short edits of the park session or backcountry adventure well before the movie releases.

So i ask the question, do you think the edits are ruining the hype for ski movies?

I know personally i will be buying and supporting L1 and PBP as usual and may pick up Field's movie as well. Hopefully the edits haven't ruined too much of the hype!

What edits? Like the trailers? Because most of the edits on this site don't really compare to a full production length movie by pros.

There are some decent edits but they dont affect much regarding your concern. I always look forward in watching the latest films by L1, stept etc.; Im not saying that all the edits out there arent comparable to films, (some of the edits are in fact really good) but films are often on another level. Its hard to explain but I can watch edits with a light heart, whereas I expect a lot of bangers from a movie produced by a respectable production company. Simply put, Id still buy movies.

Sorry for the dub post but I couldnt get my point straight.Id still buy films because I know that they contain some extreme action worth my cash.

I don't know that it ruins the hype for me. I'm still stoked when trailer season / the movies come out. I do see your point though, it is interesting when you see a movie for the first time and remember seeing them at that feature in an edit months ago. Shea's front flip crash on the chain link fence, or the Olympic training rail video with Tom and Steve Stepp come to mine. I guess either way I'm going to continue supporting the industry by buying the movies these guys work their asses off to make.

The only edits that are out that even remotely compare to the skiing in movies are usually Real Skifi, Traveling circus, and sometimes what is in the Weak (although more the other two). None of the edits ruin the hype for me bc the urban and custom built features that are in the movies are only seen in the movies, and the pros do their craziest skiing in movies.

Glad to see most feel that edits are not ruining the movie season for you all! I do like how easy it is to get exposure now a days, while it may seem like overkill, i really enjoy the quick 3 minute sessions a lot of you put out, even if its just jumpin around on a pvc rail in your backyard.

winter cant come soon enough!

I don't think it ruins it at all.

1. The sick edits put out through out the season get you hyped on and thinking about people that you probably never new about.

2. People filming segments can see what's going on at the time in the season and get inspired to step up their game.

3. Video companies or people saying releasing content during the season don't know how to or are scared to adjust to changing times of how media is distributed. The public is going to get what it wants. You can't force people to take things a certain way. They are going to get what they want how they want it. If you don't provide it someone else will.
