Ski Edge Detuning

I want to detune the edges of my new skis so I can hit my summer setup (PVC rails) because sharp edges get caught a ton especially when the skis are brand new. I have a metal file to do it and I know how I am just curious as to if I can actually ruin my skis if I manage to do it wrong, basically I have seen most everywhere that you just file down the underfoot edges at 45 degrees, but when do you stop?

Make 'em nice and round... Also this new ski company called "Search" created a great edge detuning file called the "Bar" you should check it out.

Take a hard stone and dull it down, will take longer but you won't kill your edges (a file cancrack em)

I never had problems catching on pvc when I got my new skis. They should detune by themselves pretty fast anyway

No, but a file is way WAY too aggressive for detuning. The only time you should ever put a file to a ski edge is if you fucked them over really badly on rocks and are trying to get an edge back (using the proper file guide of course). Try a gummi stone.

This. and not just when you first get them. as the edges wear, they develop nice little burrs. these burrs can catch on rails and rip out edges if they're large enough.

whenever I wax, I run a gummi over the whole skis until I can slide my thumb across each side without it getting slashed.

I agree a file is super aggressive but I de tuned my a bangs to the point of no return and I couldn't be happier. Then again I live in Illinois and don't ski anything except park
