Ski colleges

Boulder is a sick campus. I visited a friend there for a week and the town is real cool and down-to-earth, but with plenty to do. Great party scene. But two hours is a LONG way from the mountains, I'm not sure I could deal with that. I'm fifty minutes from Stowe here at UVM and that's pushing the limits of my patience and time management.
 
yeah i go there, it isnt as bad as people think if you find the right people. I ski every Thursday and one day on the weekend and still get good grades and shit. Also you can take the canyon on days with traffic which is nice.
 
what mountains are near the LA area because im seriously a lot of film schools in the area but im not sure where skiing is in california
 
I don't know too much about Cali geography, but you're probably somewhere near Mammoth out there. "Somewhere near" is a pretty relative term though, it means like a half hour in VT but Cali is fucking massive, could be like four hours. Probably is. I don't see too many ski resorts being in the LA region... good luck though.
 
CU Film Program is sick btw. Thats the program I did, and they actually teach 16mm film. Most "film" schools these days just teach totally on digital now.

16mm > any digital or HD
 
Word. If you really want to ski don't try to mix college in. College is probably the biggest investment that you'll make and you don't want to fuck around.
 
I'm from Washington but went to skiU (AKA CU). I was in a really tough program there (Architecture) but still managed to ski 3-4 days a week and got decent grades. I was probably in your same shoes in High school good grades and test scores got in everywhere I applied. i ALSO partied a shit load as Boulder is one of the greatest party schools in the country. Not to mention the 2- 3 meter diving boards and 2 1 meter diving boards to train on in the rec center. Learned pretty much every rotation possible on them!!! Oh not to mention Boulder fucking kick ass and there is an unordanary ammount of hot girls and things to do! Get it. I have endless good things to say and now have a kick ass job in seattle and am able to ski more then in college. Boulder kicks ass!!!
 
mountain high is about 3 hours out of downtown LA if you add traffici think big bear is about 3 or 4 and mammoth is 5 or 6 i think
 
uvm is pretty sweet. bolton is like 30 mins away, stowe and bush are 45ish, jay a little over an hour. we've got the freestyle ski team which rides at stowe mostly, vans there and back every weekday. i took a year off and lived in mammoth to satisfy the need for western skiing. consider it. good school, lots of good skiers, best mountains in the east, lots of good urban too if that's your thing.

I think the schools out east tend to be more high strung, but often real good, the skiing cant compare to out west though. For the most fun time, I would stick to U of Colorado, U of Vermont, or U of Montana. If you want the sun and the snow go west. I love CU boulder by the way.
 
you could make it into UBC. You have the exact same grades and SAT scores as I do, I think I have 7 APs or something but no biggie. I'm applying to Middlebury, Colorado College (mad sick school), Bates, Colby, UVM, UBC, Lewis and Clark, Colgate, and UW honors. All of those with the exception of Colgate have pretty good skiing by them (the EC ones have the best skiing on the east next door).

For west coast, Lewis and Clark is right next to Portland, it's not too far from Mt. Hood. U Washington is in Seattle, pretty close to a few ski areas. Western WA isn't the same caliber of academics as those two but its still super sick, great vibe and good skiing nearby. There aren't too many good cali schools near skiing. Check out Colorado College if you want a really unique and great liberal arts education, it's not super close to the mountains but it's still better skiing than you'll get in VT.

I have to go to class, so that's all I'll post for now. Boulder could be a good choice too, you'd definitely get in.
 
If your going to film school is it Cal Arts by chance?

If it is then your like 1hr 15mins from Mt. High, 45mins from Mt. Baldy, 1hr45mins from Snow Valley, 2hr's from Bear Mt and Snow Summit, and like 5 hr's from Mammoth.

If your in downtown or hollywood or something add like 30mins to those times though.

I want to apply to UofU but I think the party scene might suck and apparently buying booze is a bitch and expensive. Also what sort of GPA would I need to transfer in from a Jr. College? I know its lower than what you need coming out of highschool but my GPA isn't that good. I have some voluenteer work and such though.
 
UBC (British Columbia) is a great school. Need some good grades, but Vancouver is a sick city and you can make Whistler in 45mins- 1 hour
 
I go to CU boulder and two hours to the mountains is way too far. Basically your driving 4 hours to go skiing in a day. I would say the best bet is in utah, somewhere like the university of utah or westminster (20 min from skiing and better mountains). or University of Nevada: Reno ( 30 min from the best tahoe resorts).
 
why is everyone saying dartmouth?

the dartmouth skiway is 30 mins form there, but it sucks and is flat with no park. whaleback is the next closest and well... its whaleback. sunapee is nearby, like maybe an hour. their park has been improving and im impressed. okemo is about an hour as well and their park can range from good to bad, but they have good trails, but honestly i would not call dartmouth a skiing college. they do have a sick D1 ski team that i see train everyother day and they kiill it.
 
i only have like a 2.7 right now in highschool but i got into a pretty legit school near pittsburgh.. if i do good the first year there do you think i could get into uvm ?
 
RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) in troy, ny (basically Albany) if you're looking for a really good engineering school. i'm only an hour away from Mt Snow and their park is gnarly. check it out.
 
i go to CU and love it. only 1.5 hrs to keystone or breck and i only have class on tues/thurs this semester. stoked!
