so im going to MHSSC over the summer. and i cant fit my ski boots in my ski bag i was wondering if i should get a trans pack to just carry them on. the only thing im worried about is getting turned down at security and i cant get on my flight with them. any suggestions?

When I went to MHSSC a few years ago I used my bootbag as my carry on and kept my ipod, book, whatever in a little pocket on the side of my boot bag.

My friend brought his fulltilts on a plane when we went from Pennsylvania to Colorado and had a few connecting flights. It was no problem at all. Im sure you'll be fine

just got back from whis last week and i had to take my boots on the plane with me but it seemed to be no problem.

you should have no problem, unless they have crampons on, in that case you could roundhouse kick the shit out the pilot and make a mess

I fly home from college all the time and I just bring my backpack as my carry-on and let my boots hang right off of it, never had an issue.

i just did some digging around and found a very large S&M bikes bag in my basement and my ski boots fit like a glove in the large pocket. looks like im gonna carry them on

I flew with just ski boots around my shoulder. Its allowed and cheaper than checking it. Not as much of a hassle as you might think

Last time I flew it was with southwest and I was able to check 1 suit case, 1 ski bag packed full of skis and jackets, and my boot bag with my boots and helmet. Then I just took a backpack as my carry-on. Southwest kills it when it comes to bags.

don't use a bag. just sling the power strap over your shoulder and take them with you. You can still have a backpack carry on for your other shiz.

So true. If an airline loses your skis, it's not that big of a deal to borrow/rent. Boots are a whole different story. Especially if you are like me and have had lots of boot work done to make them fit perfectly.

Yea you should have no problem. I have had friends get crap from security for not having their boots in a bag...but I have never had a problem carrying my boots on in a bag. I always carry them one. Dont trust the airlines not to lose them....they lose enough of my stuff. My boots are my boots! I have spent a lot of time and money to get them just right...no way im getting to utah or colorado or whistler and have to wear rental boots....

For sure carry them with you. I was flying with in the country so i dont know if that makes a difference but they take up ALOT of room in your bag and if you carry them on you will not only save alot of room, but incase you loose all your other shit and dont get it back untill a day or two into camp you can most likely use other peoples shit or the camps sponsors stuff.

yo ima counselor at mhssc, ill prolly be pickin you up. yea kids all the time just bringem round their backpack as a carryon.-Jasper

You can have them as a carry on, but that is kind of annoying, you should get a transpack, they are perfect to just put all your shit in before and after you hit the slopes, worked great for me.

i always take my boots on the plane. i've never had any problems either. i would recemmend always taking them with you on the plane because if your bag doesn't make it, it's a lot easier and more comfortable to have your own boots and rent skis than renting boots and skis. not to mention you end up saving some extra money. when i travel with boots on a plane i just connect my power straps and hang my boots over my backpack and i have no problems and it's a lot easier to carry them that way. when i get on the plane just stick the boots in the overhead and backpack under the seat and ur set.

right but you gotta check your skis anyway, and the airline doesnt charge u for the boot bag too, it all counts as one.so if you carry your boots, you gotta check your regular gear, at extra expense.
the cheapest way I figured is to pack all ski gear in boot/ski bags, then normal clothes in a small roller and messenger bag. then you only get charged for checking one bag.
would waaaaay suck if they lost your boot bag tho

Not entirely, it depends on the airline

Delta counts a bootbag and a ski bag (if the combined weight is under 50 lbs.) as only one checked bag which costs $25

yea u can carry them on just sling em over your shlder...carry your book and put the other stuff in your pocket or boots

maybe for some airlines. but not delta for sure and I thought it was a common policy. could be wrong about that part tho

Flying home from Banff the whole Alberta Jr. Race team was on the plane with me, they all had thier boots as a carry on and there seemed to be no problemo.

I just bring my bootbag with my boots, helmet and goggles in it with me every time i fly. It would suck if the airline lost your boots.

you can definitely just carry them on with you. sling them over your backpack and no one'll say anything to you. just be careful not to hit people with them.

i've had them in my backpack before and they asked me if they could open my pack to investigate. i explained they were ski boots and that they were more than welcome to look. she opened my backpack and looked at my boots and told me to have a nice flight. they may want to look at them if they are in a backpack. but i'm sure it depends on the security person and airport you're in.

You don't even need to bother getting a pack unless you really want one for more than just traveling on the plane. I just hook the straps together and throw them over my shoulder. You shouldn't have any problems.

I flew with my boots in a carry on bag, and I also managed to fit socks in to my boots, and quite a but of baselayers in with the boots also.
I bring a ski bag made for 2 skis, and pack that bitch full of clothes. It also has spots for boots....(which I used last trip). But yeah my sticks in there. Then my carry on contains the rest of my clothes and boots. My backpack carries my laptop, digital camera, hd cam, and chargers.

On second thought heres what I ended up doing. I checked my ski bag and boot bag and stuffed them with my clothes and outerwear and carried on a backpack with everything that didn't fit

he would automatically me my hero if he wore ski boots on the plane.

TSA would probably think they are a serious shoe bomb if you wore them though hhaha
