h30films, usually you know what your talkin about. but skiing requires a lot more lateral stability in a boot than snowboarding does. if our boots were not laterally stiff, trying to put a ski on edge and turn would suck. in all honestly, i think you could wear a pair of hiking boots or basketball sneakers to snowboard and they would work just as well as legitimate snowboard boots, the bindings give you most of the support. look at flow bindings, they have a highback as well as the sleeve thing that goes over the top of your boot. essentially your whole boot is surrounded by the binding
