Ski Boot Sizing

Hi, I was shopping for boots and was about to buy a pair for a steal at REI for $120, but sadly they quickly sold out of my size, (if you are a size 30.5, 31.5 get them here). So I was shopping for size 28.5 since I wear size 10.5 shoes, and all of the websites told me that that would make me a size 28.5. Today, I go to my local ski shop looking for boots, and they measure me and place me at a 36.5. I tried on boots and they fit comfortably around my foot, except some light pushing on my big toe when I stood up. So what gives? Am I a size 28.5 or 26.5, or am I even a size 27, since they felt a tad small on me?

For some extra information, I have wide feet, and want a medium flex boot, but I don't really have too high of a budget, $200 at most. Thanks!

Honestly, its vary hard to get boots on that price, and honestly its completley worth it to blow the money on boots as its the most important thing in your setup. I just blew $400 on boots today and almost $550. Whatever fits you the best, whatever felt the best is what size you are.

Dont follow the sizing chart online. You'll most likely buy a boot that's too big and any savings you had would be wasted.

Go to a good boot fitter/shop and let them do their thing. You'll be glad you did. It might be more expensive, but if you ever need work done it'll most likely be covered and they should adjust your bindings for free.

If you can try and save some more money. You'll be hard pressed to find a decent boot for price range.

I have a size 11-11.5 foot and fit in the 27.5 full tilt booters just fine. it really depends on the company sizing. Would definitely recommend trying on the boot itself before you buy online because every one fits differently whether it be length or width.

try a footbed or some sort of arch support (think superfeet), it'll help you get your heel back in the boot and it'll keep your foot from flattening out in the boot and keep your toes off the front.

footbeds are my go to if someone's hitting their toes in the front of the boot

reference: I'm a bootfitter (4 yrs)

This will certainly help an te basic superfeet will be better then nothing and cheap, although personally I will not fit boots with a aftermarket sole like that as they are not a good a custom. They can be very helpful with wider feet to where shell stretching is often required.

Everything else has has been said really. People never buy shoes that actually fit do it is very common to need a smaller boot then You think. Boots should feel pretty tight at first. The liner will bed out around a size so they do want to feel if anything a little small initially. It sounds like the shop had you fitted ok so I would stick with them and just let them do all the work you need.

Not saying its smart...because it isnt. I recently bought boots online for an insane discount. Got very lucky and they fit my feet pretty dam well out of the box.

Took them to a bootfitter to get the kinks worked out (of course I had to pay for that)

Most of the time, if your boots feel perfect right out of the box - then they don't fit.

Go to a bootfitter and get it done properly. It'll cost more, but it is entirely worth it.

Don't know if this counts as a boot sizing question but figured it was my best bet. I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer for me. I have a pair of Nordica 3 piece boots and my one calf is noticeably smaller then the other due to nerve damage. But not the point. my ski boot fits snug around the other calf but i have a fair bit of space all around my other legs calf muscle. It results in my leg bouncing around my boot and wicked heel lift. I have tried spacers and wrapped tensor bandages around the leg, even tried cutting and layering socks around the area and i can't seem to find anything that fits. So my question is, does anybody have any ideas to help me with this problem???
