Ski binding smashed my finger

last night i was mounting a pair of skis and with rossi fks bindings a, for anyone who knows how they work, i snapped the heel piece on my finger. if you look at the picture, you'll see where this all happened. i haven't had feeling in the tip of my finger for almost 12 hours now. but am i the only one who's done this? or have other people had their ski mechanisms turn on them?

I don't see how so many people manage this, I find them safer to push down than any other bindings. Except maybe griffons/jesters

I have a new found respect for ski bindings. i thought i was going to lose my finger. the worst part was that it wasn't on the ski yet so i had no leverage to release myself. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's done this though. hahah

My middle finger was caught in that same spot about 2 1/2 months ago, it sucked.

I was holding the bottom of the heel piece and it engaged. It hurt, but then when I went to pull my hand out it was stuck. I tried to push the heel back down but the curved part on the bottom pushed the finger down even harder...could not slide the hand to the side either.

"goddammit, you have got to be kidding me" I shouted.

I had to walk outside from my basement to the barn with a ski stuck to my finger to find my pops so that he could use a beefy screwdriver to push to the side and pry up so that I could get my finger out.

was trapped for maybe 5 mins

Fucked my nail up and the tip of the finger was numb for a few weeks.

The new nail is now starting to grow underneath and feeling is fine.

Be careful out there

i saw this thread and promised myself i would never let this happen to me. just smashed my middle and ring finger on my fks 155. no fun at all.

my dad did that to himself when he was a kid, but that was before they had safety bindings and shit so he had to unscrew the whole binding and go to the hospital to have it removed.

thats exactly why i turn the DIN all the way down when i'm mounting/tuning in case something like that happens i can get myself out

I feel your pain op. after I picked up my pivots at Rei I was playing around with them in the car. My friend had to slam on the breaks and it cause me to snap the binding over my thumb. It swelled to the size of a golf ball on the opposite end. I had no leverage to get it off since i was in a moving car and it wan not on a ski. ended up running into a safeway we drove by and some random military guy helped me get it off, saving my thumb. Was stuck on there for a good 5 minutes and to this day was the scariest and most painful experience of my life.

did it with an unmounted pair and had to run around trying to find someone who was home to hold it and release it because my fucking thumb was trapped

as soon as I saw the thread title I had to see what binding it was and to no surprise at all it was the same bindings that did the same thing to me. soooo fucking painful especially when it gets stuck at an awkward angle where you cant get the leverage to get it off.

this is why im too scared to ever get fks. well, not really, its cuz i cant afford them, but these horror stories sound awful

I did that last year! the tip of my finger split open from the pressure and i still dont have felling in a part of it. let me find some pictures....

so if those worked then the first two are from the day it happened and the last two are obviously once the nail fell off.

first time i ever saw fks bindings in person i played with them. the shop employee quickly grabbed them away and said "don't mess with those" they will mess you up. he showed me his pinky finger. it looked disgusting. just like the above guy's

wow i cant believe how many people have also done this. I got my thumb trapped in it last year and literally just sat there and stared at it for a minute like "how the hell im i gonna get my thumb out of this." Shit was like a mouse trap, had to push the binding back down putting it further into my thumb before releasing it, took like 3 tries to haha

I came into this thread to say 'pics or it didn't happen'

Pics were already there.

Regretted seeing them.

hurts like a fucking BITCH. did it last season right when they were new and fresh, pretty much the only downside to these bindings

did the same thing with a pair of unmounted dynafit bindings when we got a new pair in my shop and i was checking them out because theyre pretty dam interesting. had to put them on a demo board/plate and managed to smash my thumb, such a stupid thing but shit it really hurts

Crazy you should post this. I've done this a few years ago in my look pivots, but my buddy came into my shop the other day and tried to help my friend who was mounting his FKS to remove the brake and did the same thing before I could stop him. After we got his finger out he was leaning against the counter and started shaking and passed out, we caught him he was sweating profusely so we got him snow on the finger and water and sat him down. ten seconds later we look up and he passes out again flat on his back and hits his head on the concrete floor! needless to say he was hung over and the shock and pain and lack of hydration got him good! Made for an interesting day at work for sure. FKS aka Moustrap

my finger looks kind of like this, but I never broke through the skin, my fingernail is a purple color and the corners are peeling away right now… I still can't feel my finger completely either. but damn, you really got messed up!

Shut my finger in FKS set on 14 once. Someone else had to release me from it. Not fun.

I did that at a shop before, and the binding was set at like DIN12. Took three shop attendants to snap that fucker off, lost my fingernail too ahahaha.
