Ski binding smashed my finger

someday machines will turn on mankind just as the terminator movies predicted. dont wory this is just the beginning of the rise of the machines. if i were you i would build a time machine to go back and kill the creator of the fks. and hopefully save mankind. its up to you my friend!

There is a black metal loop that links the arms together underneath the pivot point for the "dildo". I presume it's to reinforce the binding laterally.

When the binding closes, there is a kind of tab that sticks out of the dildo which is what your boot presses on when you step in, to make the whole assembly rotate.

The gap between the black loop and this tab, when the binding is closed, is maybe 1/4 of an inch. The binding closes with a rather sudden snap once it gets past the peak of the eccentric lobe.

If your finger/thumb is in that gap, it gets mercilessly squashed. The tab is quite thin too so the pressure on it is pretty intense. Also getting stuck in there effectively makes the force required to release the binding way, way higher. So if it was already 12 or so it's more like about 30. I know a few people who have got stuck and none of them were able to force the binding open on their own - all of them required at least 2 other people to get un-stuck. One guy had his thumb stuck for a couple of hours because nobody else was around, almost lost the thumb due to lack of blood supply.

Yup. Did this with an unmounted pair, and I couldn't get it off. I sat in my Room For like 5 minutes trying to get it off, couldn't, so I went to find my dad. He couldn't get it off so we both had to do it. it was snapped directly down on the joint of my middle finger, and it dislocated it and fucked up the cartilage.

Honestly it was a ton more painful than breaking my wrist was. Its the only time in my life I have felt sick from pain.

I might do this tonight. Probably get my finger stuck trying to demonstrate it, that'll make for an even better video...
 
Seeing these pictures makes me happy that I'm a cheap fucker and will only ride demo bindings less than $50
 
A few days ago my brakes broke and the big ol' dildo closed on my finger when I was trying to fix it. Tons of blood, but not as much pain as everyone else described. Got away with a bloody mitten but nothing else.

the video isn't exactly what is happening, put a carrot in the open binding and lift the dildo like a boot stepped into it

it's like the worlds best and biggest mouse trap

I'm sending one of my guys to buy carrots now so we can film the usual way people get caught

in my life of shop/tech work I've seen it 5 or 6 times, the 2 that stick out are dude working on Pivots at home and closing it on his finger, then unscrewing the forward pressure arms so the dildo/heel detached from the baseplate, driving to our store and seeing how to solve the problem

we drove him to the hospital so they could cut the assembly off with the same thing they cut wedding rings off with

the other time the heel treadle closed right on the kids index finger knuckle while the ski was in the mounting vice, the store manager says something along the lines of "I got this" and forces the heel open FAST

the kid promptly screamed and passed out, not sure he ever came back to work

hahaha oh man this brought back some painful memories, so happy i'm not the only dumbass that this has happened to... oh FKS, how i love and hate thee
 
Yep been there done that. Bought my first pair and was checking em out and BOOM my finger is pinched in there. At the time I was living in a dorm room, and my roomate was asleep. So, I started yelling ow Ow OW, waking up my roomate, who assisted me in removing the binding. I did not lose my finger nail, although blood built up underneath it and created a lot of pressure in the tip of my finger. It hurt. Now I am better.

Let's just say I learned not to fuck with ski bindings.

In the video I flipped the whole assembly upside down so you could see it clearer, but the binding is open at the start and then closes to much carrot-smashing effect, haha.

But looking forward to your vegetable slaying video anyway.
 
Can someone invent like a heelpiece wrench for techs or something...

I hate seeing pics of split open nails that shit hurts so bad.

it happens when they arent mounted, you cant easily eject them because they pop apart at the base plate or spin. It is a right of passage, and definitely something you only do once.
